View Full Version : Leaving my Web Design Ways... How should I tell my clients?

Hi all,

Unfortunately due to changes at work and employment, I will no longer have the time to answer to update requests from my clients.

I have 4 clients who require updates on a semi-regular basis, I charge them £10 for simple text/picture changes per month.

I also host 2 of the clients websites on my reseller hosting.

Because I want to give them notice, what is the best practice? I don't want to leave them hanging.

Bare in mind, no formal contracts have ever been signed between me and my clients.

Does anyone have any advice? Any experience on this matter?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

If no formal contracts were ever signed, be upfront and honest and tell them that you can no longer answer these update requests. Give them time, maybe 2-4 weeks minimum. During this process, if I were in this situation, I would make sure that I gave them a recommendation on a new, good designer, of whom I trust--or at least where to find said good designer.

Just but honest, tell them the situation, and maybe recommend someone who they can contact - you will find plenty of people on there that can help support your clients.

If they have paid you and still have balance days left, it is wise to refund their balance and recommend them to other well known designer who can better care of them.
