Hi ya
I seem to get loads of emails with viruses in them (like you all - AVG picks them up though), but I would like to use a program that isn't as virus friendly as Outlook 2000.
I need to be able to import in my account, emails and address book settings into this new client.
I tried Eudora, but it has some serious issues with importing the data... ie loads of emails will be 'corrupted' and show up as garbage, email addresses will be truncated etc.
Not to mention a 600mb PST file becomes over 2GB!
Are there any other alternatives that will do what I need?
Thanks :D

I've tried other mail programs including Eudora and found that Outlook 2000 is the best out of them all. I'm using Outlook 200 with Spam Inspector and Norton Antivirus... this combination has worked really well over the past few years. Spam Inspector has only been recently added to the other two pieces of software, but I think I've now found the perfect combination :).
So you might want to get Norton Antivirus added maybe? I'm not sure why you would want to switch to another e-mail client though.

I use The Bat! and love it been using it about a year and have never had a problem yet.. I switched for the same reason you did and have never been happier.. You can check it out at http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/ I am pretty sure they offer a 30 day demo so you can try it out.

Also try Pegasus Mail (a bit of a learning curve) and Mail Warrior as well. Keep an eye on Columba also. Foxmail and Calypso come to mind as well.

Outlook is the program I use and I personally wouldn't change but what I do is run a program called ePrompter. It runs in your systray and alerts you to when you have new e-mail (all new e-mail). You can then view it there first before downloading it. I almost always can spot a virus or spam and remove it before it goes to my inbox. Plus I also run Norton Anti-Virus and I've never been infected with a virus.

Also, just as a recommendation, you shouldn't let your PST files get over 100MB in size. Microsoft recommends 500MB but I've seen PST files become corrupt over 100-200MB in size. The reason? When you open the PST file, it also opens a copy as a temp file. So if you have a 600MB PST file you are really using 1200MB of hard drive space to view it. Doing this can cause the file to become corrupt. Create multiple PST files and spread out your e-mail or reduce it's size considerably. As a recommendation.

I use The Bat! and require all my internal staff to use the same program.
No one has ever taken a long time to learn the program and it has never given us a problem with a viris.
We still use Outlook for scheduling and contact lists, but because not a single installation of Outlook has any e-mail settings, a virus can't utilize the information in the address book....

if you're on linux, then you might want to look at Ximian's Evolution. it has a very Outlook look and feel. this has been the only thing i've been using since it was released about a year ago or so.
