NumLock 11-03-2002, 01:38 AM try going into safe mode. skelley1 11-03-2002, 01:49 AM Have you restarted the computer? If so, as NumLock suggested, go into safe mode. If you can get in to the start menu from there, then maybe there is a conflict with one of your drivers. Go to your driver section and see if there is a problem. If you don't see anything, then start up again, but turn on each driver one at a time, until you see which one causes the problem. This may take a while, and unfortunately may not be the solution. Anyone else run into this before? NumLock 11-03-2002, 01:59 AM Well my friend has windows me, and the same thing happened to him. I guess he sent it for repairs. Samuel 11-03-2002, 03:16 AM Hunt around within this key area. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] See if the start menu is disabled With xp, your profile may have become damaged. If coming up in safe mode doesn't resolve the problem, try the following: 1. Login as the local Administrator. 2. Create a new local account. 3. Login as the new User. 4. Logoff. 5. Login as the Administrator again. 6. Copy all of the folders over from within your OLD profile. Don't copy the NTUSER files (.DAT and .INI) over to the new profile. Done! Logoff and log back on as the new user, and you should have all of your programs and icons back. pycoder 11-03-2002, 04:00 AM hehe Samuel 11-03-2002, 04:03 AM Originally posted by ReveX hehe What is this about eh? NumLock 11-03-2002, 04:39 AM hey! thanx, i'll probably know if that works when my start menu doesn't show up..................wait a sec......how will i know what to do if i can't access my 'my documents'??? darn it. Samuel 11-03-2002, 04:48 AM Right click on my documents, and make sure someone didn't locate it on an offline share. Locate that share, enable it, or copy it to CD and move it to your local computer. Then, right click again on your my documents, and browse to that backup, can even be on CD so you can take your documents with you using a burner (CD-RW), and so only you have a copy. |
