I was wondering what if any review sites any of you use? We used to point clients and potential clients to ochostreview.co.uk which was quite popular when it was first launched however it doesn't seem to be very active anymore. Basically I was just wondering if anyone had a central website they used for testimonials or whether you just keep them on your own message boards?

I personally think it's kind of unethical to ask people to give you reviews. Let them do it on their own. If they ask you where to go, thats a different story. However, we don't even put many of our reviews on our site, we have them printed off and hand them out with the materials we give out locally :D

Thanks for your comments. I have the same view on asking clients to leave reviews its more for potential clients when they ask if we have any testimonials just somewhere to point them to and ochostreview does that job I was just interested to find what other hosts do.

I agree with Randy here in that it's not very ethical to ask people for reviews, although let's not pretend that it isn't done, and I can't really blame anybody that does do it if the reviews are at least genuine.

If a client wants to leave a review and actually asks you where, well then I guess it's alright to point them in the right direction. :)

We all know half the reviews on these sites are BS anyways, while we shouldn't be encouraging users to leave reviews, I think its better to have encouraged reviews as opposed to blatant self-promotion, which is what most review sites end up having.

One thing I will say, if you are going to ask for a review, and you tell them to leave a good, bad, or indifferent, whatever they want to do. At least then they can leave as honest of a reviews as possible. But, I've stoppede believing 3/4 of the reviews I see on the internet unless I have a way to verify the.

Speakin of reviews, I have a testimonial of a client on my site that has recently been suspended >< I need to get that off lol.

But for some reason it's helped me with SEO, if you google innohost I come up over them lol.

I am currently letting a few trusted people try my hosting for free if they give me a review after a certain period of time. I let the customer decide what they want to write, i dont ask for the review to be good or bad :)

I think its a good way to get people talking about my site, however i dont put the review on my site, i just ask them to post them in forums, replying to my thread

I hope you don't do that for here, asking for people to do reviews for you here is against the WHT rules.

The rule more precisely states that:

You may not compensate anyone for any review or recommendation. Further, you may not suggest a tone (i.e. "Go talk good about us on WHT").

As the customers get free hosting in exchange for writing a review, that would go against the rule.

no of course i don't do that here, i read the rules and i don't do anything that might break them. I have already made a few mistakes, i have to admit, the forum is pretty strict, but i like it that way :)
