I'm sitting here drinking the nicest Shiraz... :D faculty 11-03-2002, 12:13 AM haha :D Anytime mate ;) akashik 11-03-2002, 12:55 AM We already knew that :D I suppose that's what comes of turning drinking into a social religion. http://www.wolfblass.com.au/brands/wolfblass/pressroom/index.asp Wolf Blass Winery has been chosen as the Best Winemaker in the World at the world’s most prestigious wine and spirit competition, announced last night in London. The 2002 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) Presentation Banquet in London voted Wolf Blass Winery as winner of the Robert Mondavi Winemaker of the Year Trophy from a field of hundreds of international wineries and a final shortlist of just 10. Greg Moore Acroplex 11-03-2002, 12:57 AM If you are an upcoming wine connoisseur try to find some greek red wine from Santorini. Vines are grown on volcanous soil and the taste is out of this world :D Andrew 11-03-2002, 01:09 AM Originally posted by timechange If you are an upcoming wine connoisseur try to find some greek red wine from Santorini. Vines are grown on volcanous soil and the taste is out of this world :D Definately will try that! Might impress my Greek landlord! :D Acroplex 11-03-2002, 01:17 AM Now, I have several jokes about that but I will send it in a PM :D Andrew 11-03-2002, 01:21 AM Cool! Maybe they'll help me get him off my back all the time! I need to learn to say 'please, just take the rent check and stop trying to run our lives' in greek...lol...perhaps a little humor could liven that up a bit more...lol skelley1 11-03-2002, 01:59 AM I gotta say that I've always enjoyed Austrailian Cabernets. For the money as they cost in the US, they can't be beat. susannad 11-03-2002, 04:50 AM what shiraz are you drinking ? we do have some nice wine I know, I'm not an afficiando myself I like a glass of icy cold beer but I notice that in English TV series and even in modern english crime novels that characters have the odd sip of some australian wine nowadays we had some excellent German settlers in the 19th century who understood grapes and started the whole industry AussieHosts 11-03-2002, 07:53 AM Have you ever been out to De Bortoli's Susanna? http://www.debortoli.com.au Gary susannad 11-03-2002, 08:12 AM yes, I have but don't you realise I'm just a philistine ? actually I have a friend who, after his father died, turned the vineyard into ..firstly .."organic' .. and now 'biodynamic' .. and he manages quite well and always sends me a crate of something each month but being an ignorant philistine, I keep the couple of bottles of non-alcholic grape juice, give the couple of bottles of semillon or chardonnay or reisling to friends, and keep the beautiful shiraz and cab sav for my partner who dutifully polishes off 4 bottles a month as for me, I still prefer a beer (peasant stock) but we do have good wine in Australia AussieHosts 11-03-2002, 08:27 AM I'd take a nice cold beer first anyday. :-) We used to use De Bortoli's as a supplier when we ran a wine label making business (Marita's family in Melbourne), and so I have always had a liking for their wines. Gary susannad 11-03-2002, 08:34 AM I suppose I should ask what the wine label business was ..:) but I won't ... far too well-mannered (?) my friend Steve Karakatsinoudis sells most of his stuff to Swords now do you have anything like that up there ? like swords ? susannad 11-03-2002, 08:41 AM just realised that when I was sitting here posting earlier I was, and still am, savouring some retsina I like retsina AussieHosts 11-03-2002, 08:53 AM Back around 1989-1991...a hot foil printing company in Boronia. Cleanskin wines bought in, and we'd run off promotional and "as required" label batches for companies like Mercedes. You've seen bottles with "Merry Christmas to our valued customers" or product launch/commemerative type labels? That sort of thing. :) "Retsina - Wine of the Greek Gods" ;) Gary susannad 11-03-2002, 09:03 AM yes, seen them straight honest company as far as I knew what a combination eh ? her skills and yours .. no wonder you do so well and have happy customers like me Acroplex 11-03-2002, 12:58 PM Originally posted by susannad my friend Steve Karakatsinoudis sells most of his stuff to Swords now Ahhh another Greek expatriate :D Tell Steve this ancient greek phrase (now quoted in barbaric greeglish): "Oinos eufrainei kardian anthropou" (The wine gratifies the heart of the man). Acroplex 11-03-2002, 01:02 PM Originally posted by Editor "Retsina - Wine of the Greek Gods" ;) Gary :D To those of you that plan to visit Athens, Greece in late August/September each year, don't miss the annual wine festival. You'll get the chance to stomp on grapes (yes, you wash your feet first) and participate in the creation of wine the way it was done since the 2nd millennium BC. Plus the wine is free! Retsina is awesome, although a shocker of a taste and some people do not easily tolerate the resinated flavor. But it's a smooth wine that causes no headaches. For pure nectar try the red "Mavrodafni" that will induce - when taken in ample quantities - a drinking stupor so divine that all the worries of the world become little unworthy trivialisms :D AussieHosts 11-03-2002, 01:32 PM Originally posted by timechange For pure nectar try the red "Mavrodafni" that will induce - when taken in ample quantities - a drinking stupor so divine that all the worries of the world become little unworthy trivialisms :D Hmm, I wonder if our ISP's mailserver admin have been into that lately... ;) Gary Acroplex 11-03-2002, 01:46 PM Maybe introduce alcotest for sysadmins? :D susannad 11-03-2002, 08:24 PM mavrodafni ? do you want me to kill myself ? keep it for the sysadmins Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:25 PM Just don't drink and drive :D susannad 11-03-2002, 08:27 PM hey timechange, I live in the second largest greek-speaking city in the world Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:29 PM That would be Melbourne, Oz :D Second only to Athens. susannad 11-03-2002, 08:31 PM oh bother ! I was hoping you wouldn't know and I could confound you with it Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:34 PM Hey I am not drunk with mavrodafni yet  Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:36 PM BTW I have high respect for the Australians; they fought bravely in the Greek resistance during WW2. Also I have the hots for Kylie Minogue ever since 1988 :D susannad 11-03-2002, 08:41 PM in my street I have 3 old men who fought in the mountains ... then they came out here to live afterwards they're very proud men and rightly so ! susannad 11-03-2002, 08:42 PM BTW I thought it was the english you fought in the greek resistance I saw it in a film so it must be true Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:46 PM You must be confusing the resistance of the allies (British, Australians) against the German occupation forces in Greece, with the civil war in Greece after WW2 ended. That was a sad part of our history. BTW all is forgiven and forgotten so hello to our German friends here :D susannad 11-03-2002, 08:54 PM no, :) I'm not confusing the two events .. certainly not just pointing out the english make propaganda fims too Acroplex 11-03-2002, 08:57 PM Well then I am confused. Anyhow, tell the 3 old men down the street that my grandpa fought and died in the mountains so I am glad they lived long and prospered. And let's all have some ouzo with mezes! :D susannad 11-04-2002, 12:37 AM one of these old men wears an old badge engraved with the letters kappa kappa epsilon Acroplex 11-04-2002, 01:19 AM Yeah that was the greek communist party's emblem. I am sure he has some interesting stories to share. susannad 11-04-2002, 01:27 AM he has indeed ! I just passed him as I went down to get some more milk and passed on your message he thanks you Acroplex 11-04-2002, 01:29 AM That's very nice to hear! I think I will go to ABC liquor tomorrow, desperately hoping to find some greek wine other than ouzo LOL susannad 11-04-2002, 03:20 AM get some retisina, it's good for you every Con, Nick and Ari knows that Acroplex 11-04-2002, 09:59 AM Opa! |
