View Full Version : Which webhosts do you guys unanimously think are the best out there?
DeNasio 11-02-2002, 07:00 AM Ok, I'm currently looking for a cheap but reliable webhost to host one of my sites. I frequently visit this forum to see if I can find a good webhost here. But every time I read a good review of a webhost, someone else always post a bad review of that same webhost! So then I start to doubt because I don't want to later hear "I told you so!" or "Didn't you do a search first?".
So now I want to know, which webhosts do you guys unanimously think are the best out there?
P.S. I know Aletia and Tera-Byte have good rep but I already have a site hosted with Aletia and want to try another host, and Tera-Byte deleted my accounts after some billing problem and don't want me any more!
SpyModem 11-02-2002, 07:21 AM Not sure what the rules are for answering a post like this, but I am currently hosted at www.referable.com and they have been great since i signed up 3 months ago (or so).
Good luck
skelley1 11-02-2002, 07:21 AM I'm not sure how I could tell you which ones are unanimously good without searching every host in every thread. Probably every host that's been around a while will have something bad said. Not all of it has any truth to it.
Techark 11-02-2002, 07:39 AM On WHT I do not think you will get a unanimous anything :D
SoftWareRevue 11-02-2002, 07:43 AM Exactly.
Ain't nobody gonna agree on the "best" host. Because there isn't one. There is only the one that's best for you.
grandad 11-02-2002, 07:46 AM Can't say enough to recommend Pronic Solutions ( www.pronicsolutions.com ) they have been excellent for me and when I recently had a major problem they resolved everything with care, expertise and a smile :)
Unanimous? - well I don't think you'll find a bad word spoken about them on this forum.

How do you guys choose a webhost? I assume that you search the forum first to read what people have posted about the webhost. So if there are negative reviews of all the webhost, how do you choose? How do you know if a webhost is terrible like they are saying or not?
skelley1 11-02-2002, 08:50 AM When I wanted to learn WHM/Cpanel, i spent probably 20 hours looking at each referral, each 'www' under names, and did a lot of searches to find a reseller account I could play with. I also plugged their names and websites into http://groups.google.com to find a reputable host with good customer service and excellent skills. I ended up with Alan at http://splashhost.com
It's the same way with looking for script help, graphics, dedicated servers, merchant accounts, etc.
price is only a consideration when all other things are equal IMHO.
I, Brian 11-02-2002, 02:57 PM DeNasio -
1/ Research for referrals [use WHT, SP, Google, anything else]
2/ If the hosting company has a presence here, see how they behave - mature and professional?
3/ Don't rush the decision.
There's no such thing as best host for everybody - best for you, that's all - as stated. Probably a few contenders there as well.
Hamish 11-02-2002, 05:53 PM i might use a few of those techniques when searching for my host ;)

I disagree! :stickout:

I also disagree both with the disagreement and with the original statement, choosing the third alternative of parking my fat a$$ firmly on the fence and busting the post in the process. :)
Now if I could be serious for a minute...
My own personal host of choice is Sectorlink (http://www.sectorlink.com) . I've been using them for about 10 months now and have never had any problems with the service; their prices are also very reasonable as well.
They didn't even get mad at me when I accidentally wrote a bad piece of code that crashed the server (word to the wise: it's not a good idea to have an incremental counter loop, then decrease the counter variable inside of the loop. Something about 100% CPU load that hosts just don't like. :) ) They never charged me or anything like that either; they just accepted that I'd made an error and that was the end of that. So that's why I'm with them still for myself and for the majority of my clients (I'm a loyalist by nature.)

You also won't find any words spoken about them on this forum. ;) I did a search using various keyworks for Pronic Solutions and found nothing.

Probably due to my error - spelling is ProNIC, however some references ARE found under pronic.
They are definitely mentioned here and have an excellent reputation. I have a dedicated with them and their service, support and integrity are 2nd to none. :)

Ahh...so you are refering to www.pronic.biz, not www.pronicsolutions.com?

Then what? I haven't found much at all for Pronic Solutions but some info for ProNIC. (Two different companies I'm assuming. Correct me if I am wrong.) :D

Correction made - both are the same ownership - Bert is a really helpful guy. :)

App-Jason 11-07-2002, 10:03 AM Linkstream.net has one of the most competent guys around running the place. I don't usually toot other host's horns, but Ed from Linkstream runs a tight ship with totally minimal downtime, and he is incredibly knowledgable.
I think they certainly deserve some ink here.
