I wasn't quite sure where to post this but I've been working on this project for a while now and I was hoping to get a wider audience to test it out for me.

I'm offering free DNS hosting for domains you already own at www.wtfdns.com, I'm able to do this for free because the service is paid for by my customers from other projects. It's fault tolerant on the back end by using standard mysql replication with 4 separate physical DNS servers that run in pairs in geographically diverse locations. The front end is semi-redundant with an active/passive failover setup as well. The idea is to provide a 100% uptime DNS network that is easily manageable by anyone with a straight forward UI.

It's as simple as pointing your domain to our name servers (ns1.wtfdns.com & ns2.wtfdns.com) and from there creating any type of record you need, we support the full DNS spectrum from A records to SPF records.

If you don't own your own domain we do offer the ability to create new A records on a few domains that we own (pm me if you have suggestions for domains that are available).

Let me know if you have any problems, suggestions or comments. I am usually pretty quick to respond and I'm adding more features as quickly as I can. I am always looking for ways to break this or suggestions on better ways to make it fault tolerant.

Again this is just a way for me to get more people stressing the system, we currently host 1500~ records with over 200 zones and that's not even a drop in terms of our total current capacity. We don't make money from this, no ads, no domain reselling or anything, we're just testing our systems and hopefully making a good product that people like to use.

I'd just like to vouch for this guy and the quality of service he runs. I've known him for many years and he will listen to your suggestions.

Well, good luck to you :D

When do you think you will start charging?

I don't plan on it, the service is already paid for by my other projects. I am using machines that have already been paid for (DL360 G3s), network equipment that my other customers use, and the rack space is also already paid for. I can't imagine why I would ever need to start charging.

edit:
Also to note, I've been running this project for almost a year, and the project that started this one is about two years running and is profitable. We aren't trying to be the biggest but we're definitely looking to be something I can personally be proud of and I'll keep both around as long as it's useful to someone.

One suggestions would be to allow people to run private name server setup.

Well I imagine all it would take is to give people the ip addresses to my name servers to update at their registrar, only problem would be if I ever needed to update the addresses.

Yeah if anyone is interested in using his stuff go for it. Azure is very smart and a good guy. I've known him for 8 years or so.

I just like the name, regardless if you need DNS hosting :)

LOL I think there are plenty of those out there already.

PS: Will your dns service support zone transfers?

I'm considering it but I'm not quite sure what the use case is, where would you use it and why is it important? Do you need it to setup as a secondary DNS source? Is it to transfer existing domains with little hassle? Also what kind of zone transfer is it that you're looking for AXFR, IXFR or some other method?
