View Full Version : WHT Helpdesk Moved and LiteSpeed Powered?

Hello,

I noticed that the helpdesk has moved from http://www.webhostingtalk.com/helpdesk to http://helpdesk.webhostingtalk.com. As such when I click on the "Tracking URL" on replies by mods through WHT's helpdesk, the link is not working. Maybe iNet should correct the link. :wht:

Besides that, have any of you noticed that WHT is now running on LiteSpeed? :agree:

Interestingly, the URL issue was due to a LightSpeed side effect. :)

We're testing Lightspeed again, and doing an ROI. So if anyone notices any issues, please let us know.

Great to hear that. :wht:

By the way, it's LiteSpeed. ;)

I think I've noticed the pages across WHT have been loading faster, at least for me it has. :)

Is it related to Litespeed that I am having issue while searching the forum?
2 out of 5 times, all I get is a blank page.
(Or may be I am searching way too often)

Everything else seems to be working fine.

We got an off brand for testing.

Same thing has been happening to me since yesterday, additionally sometimes Firefox attempts to download the PHP files as if PHP wasn't configured.

The white page during a search is related to PHP memory limits being hit during the search. This is something that has been happening for about a week. I have expanded the memory limits numerous times, but larger queries keep pushing the boundaries.

I did a few searches for very broad terms, such as MySQL and hosting and I did not receive an error though. It's fairly intermittent and shows up during peak periods for searching. I'm still looking into it though.

I have been keeping an eye out for these occasions; the next time you receive one of these, can you open the file and see if it is indeed a PHP script or just the HTML? I suspect this is a header issue and that Firefox is not knowing to display the HTML.

I'll open it up and check next time, but I'm positive there won't be any PHP in there...probably either HTML or a blank file...but I will double check anyway.

As far as the white pages, I haven't got them on the search, but rather on the index page of the forums.

Page load times seem to be faster than before. :) Litespeed rocks! :D
I'm interested to see the stats compared with Apache.

If there was one thing that bugged me about WHT, it was the loadtimes, but MUCH, MUCH better now. Thanks. :)

It's actually slower for me. Litespeed + Opera = No?

Yeah those PHP files are just empty, 0 bytes.

Thats very strange...

Just be very cautious wile using LiteSpeed. It works well for anything *basic* that you do in apache. If you try to use any of the complex apache features in LiteSpeed the results are less than satisfactory. I dont remember any off top of my head but yea, just be cautious.

Fellow (rare) Opera user here. It actually seems faster after "the incident", moving to SL and implementing LiteSpeed.

Yea we have base line load metrics from before the move to SL, after the move, and then the beginning of the Litespeed trial.

So far I have not seen a huge change in our load times, they have dropped on average, but not as much as I would have hoped (~50ms so far).

Powered by "lightning fast" gerbils, or mice?

I thought WHT was already running litespeed, and this took place a couple years back?

I read that they wanted all their clusters to be running the same web server so they switched back to Apache.

Yes I can see that they are now using Apache. We'll see what iNet says about this. :wht:

It's like HD Fanatic mentioned above. We need everything running the same web server.

Why not convert everything to litespeed. Are the benefits too insignificant?

Why test it again on WHT? Hmm.

Why not convert everything to litespeed. Are the benefits too insignificant?I'll see if I can get Mat in here to answer that. I'd only be guessing that the cost wouldn't justify the advantages for us. But I just don't know why we're sticking with apache.

Why test it again on WHT? Hmm.I used to hate sour cream. I tried it again and didn't like it. I tried it another time, and it wasn't all bad. The next time I tried it, I actually didn't mind it at all. A few more tries, and I love it.

Seems like moving back to Apache welcomed the bugs back....
