View Full Version : Beware the uptime "guarantee"

So I've been having some problems with my web site not being available lately, and I finally got around to locating and reading the 99.9% Uptime Guarantee that my host displays prominantly on their website.

Here it is verbatum from the contract page:

99% Uptime Guarantee: The uptime guarantee pertains to network uptime only. It does NOT apply to any of the services on the server, or the server itself.

So. This weekend, the /var partition filled and my forums were offline for 24 hours. As far as the host was concerned, my site was still up. If the server had crashed hard with a hardware failure, they would have still been up as far as their guarantee goes.

Time to go shopping again I'm afraid. This just smacks of dishonesty, or at least no integrity. Make sure you read all the fine print very carefully when you decide on a service host. It seems that words mean things to some people that Webster never intended.

Hi,

I know that alivewww.com doesn't actually guarrentee they will serve an uptime - but if they drop that uptime they will give you a month's free hosting. That ain't bad is it?
