beach surfer98 11-01-2002, 10:00 AM so nobody has any opinions???:(
winner 11-01-2002, 03:12 PM your package is very very expensive.
now i see: hostdime is also very expensive. u can find much cheaper reseller plans.
look for example onefusion.com
poncho2000 11-01-2002, 04:04 PM your package is very very expensive.
Your package is "very, very" expensive ONLY for webhostingtalk :)
Your package is well priced for me as long as you offer good support.
Don't go for the cheapest reseller account, because this usually will get you in trouble. Search the forums here and find stable hosting provider, not cheap.

Peter
beach surfer98 11-01-2002, 04:12 PM ok so what about ... using http://www.okihost.com/reseller.html
as a reseller and giving them 20mb storage and 2 gig transfer. unlimited e-mail accounts , 3 SQL databases, 1 sub-domain.. and sell that for 10 bucks.. is that enough or do i need to add more.??
please help me.. cuz im new to this stuff...
beach surfer98 11-01-2002, 04:14 PM oh and btw.. which control panel is the best.. i heard cpanel.. but what about Ensim 3.1 ???
Lesli 11-01-2002, 06:32 PM I've used Plesk, Ensim, and CPanel; and I favour CPanel. It provides a good array of functions (which you can hide by creating a customised skin), and it's very user-friendly.
I offer hosting through two sites: managed, and unmanaged. I use cPanel for both. For the unmanaged hosting, having a user-friendly control panel means fewer support tickets. Since part of my target audience through the unmanaged-hosting brand is non-websavvy users who would be moving away from the free servers, ease of use is a big factor. Ensim and Plesk are a bit stark, functional, but don't give inexperienced users the hope of someday learning how to use their account control panel.
Rotifer 11-01-2002, 07:48 PM What do you plan to offer with it? Design services? Installation (bulletin boards, etc.)? If not, you are overpriced.
Ensim and Plesk are a bit stark, functional, but don't give inexperienced users the hope of someday learning how to use their account control panel.
The reasoning behind this statement eludes me.
osidosi 11-01-2002, 07:56 PM what can 50mb of space do?
100 is the minimum please... ;)
beach surfer98 11-01-2002, 09:55 PM i went to www.findmyhosting.com and my price is average. if not better.

I do web design and most of my customer's needs only 10-15 MB. When you add the e-mail space, 50 sounds pretty good to me.
Besides as a reseller if you are not overselling your web space 100 MB may not make much profit.
Why not having more than one plan? Starting from 25 up to 500 maybe...
And also "unlimited e-mails" is way too much I think... My sugestion is to give 5-10 and charge some little for more...
skelley1 11-02-2002, 08:04 AM the $23 plan has 10G of xfer. if you didn't oversell, you could only put 10 people on that plan, minus whatever you use. If you divide the 500MB by 10, you get 50MB. That is probably where you're getting your numbers.
You'll find that, as maxxkin said, most people won't use that much. You could actually sell like 3X that much and put 29-30 people at 50MB, or 15 people at 100MB or 3 at 500MB and probably be safe, especially if they are just beginning their site.
Extra BW xfer is $2.50/mo there I think, so keep that in mind in case you start gettin up to your limit. May be cheaper to move to the next level then. Calculate your max costs with everyone maxing their amount.
If you're going to do this, though, make sure they will allow you to, and make sure they won't cut you off if you exceed your limit. At $2.50/Gig/mo, they'll probably just charge you and you'll be ok.

btw... i AM one of your customers.... i host www.gnefurniture.com with you... i was gonna use your reseller plan but i found a cheaper one... www.okihost.com ....(not officical yet. but most likely)
question: can http://www.phpwebhosting.com/ be resold anonymously..??
HostDime 11-04-2002, 04:26 PM Macielter,
cheaper one is not good news, but that is your choice.
good luck
wht7200 11-04-2002, 04:42 PM Don't focus so much on price; it's only one factor. Low price leader can be as much a negative as a positive. Value for price is more important. For instance, one email address? Come on, lots of companies, like AIT or Hostway, provide unlimited or multiple email accounts to you at no charge, and you can in turn resell those..money in with no out of pocket expense. 50 MB disk space is slim, too. Banner ads are okay but where do you put them..how about hosting indeces or places like this? It's not putting your stuff in front of lots of people, it's putting it out in front of people who want it.
beach surfer98 11-05-2002, 09:23 PM ok ive been searching more and changed my mind... i found www.freestylehosting.com and will now be offering 100mb of storage instead of the 50mb and 1 gig of transfer along with these features:
Unlimited pop3 e-mail accounts.... Unlimited e-mail forwarders
Unlimited MySQL databases ...... Unlimited subdomains
Pre installed scripts ...... Easy to use control panel
Unlimited FTP accounts .... Website statistics
Two advanced shopping carts.... Online WYSIWYG editor
Custom error pages...... File manager
for 10 bux.. is this a better deal... ?? im getting very excited about starting this buiness.. i just need to do a few things
beach surfer98 11-05-2002, 09:28 PM as far as advertising goes... i want to advertise in local comptuer magazines.. and maybe the local newspaper and online banner ads..
how much does an ad in the newspaper go for?
Zeola.com 11-06-2002, 12:20 AM I tend to agree with the rest of the board, "your hostdime $23 account" is high dollar :)
Check around.
beach surfer98 11-06-2002, 03:33 AM agreed
HostDime 11-06-2002, 03:51 AM go with cheaper, you will see....
intraweb 11-07-2002, 12:47 AM 50 megs is insulting - 100 is the minimum.
why restrict email accounts? going unlimited helped us a lot.
Banner ads = complete waste of money. Actually most online advertising atleast for the hosting business is money down the toilet - but that's just my opinion. Read some of my other posts for my take on that matter...
You hit the nail right on the head if you want to concentrate on local advertising. It is the only way I can pay my bills.
Try SPLASHOST.com you will find most on WHT have positive feedback on them.
