Hi,

Recently i earned few bucks through my agency online using my friend's paypal account! Now he sended me money through western union and he also provided mtcn code but when i go to western union branch they says MTCN code is wrong so i again contacted my friend he than asked them that why MTCN code is not working and after 20 min of investigation they said my payment is in their holding department as my country is under sanctions any transactions going through is closely watched as to verify that receiver is not some Taliban or al qaida! But the reality is that my amount is small 100$ only so why they will hold my payment? and also my country (Pakistan) is not under any sanctions!

I am just clueless now that what should i do?

How long has it been in held for? Have you talked to the Western Union agent and asked how long until you can receive the payment?

Personally i hate western union, good thing hes your friend but alot of scammer's use this and then screw you over. But atleast he's your friend.

Thanks for kind replies! Well yes i contacted them here in Pakistan and they say we cant do anything without MTCN code :S

we accepted many western union payments and we never heart for any problems like this

I find that very wierd in deed. Plus....there had to be some kind of human rights movement or some form of injustice group or something like that to deal with this matter. I personally think this is wrong but you should also be careful because I think you or your friend can be held for fraud charges if the proper documents are not in place to track your transactions.

If measures aren't in place, forget it, move on, and send your money with an international courier. Simply tell your friend to send it in a post card or something like that. :-)

if WU agent are unable to locate the MTCN in their systems, then i fear that your friend might be lieing.

^^ thats what i am confused about but the problem is that sender is my friend and i trust him i have asked him about receipt if he has just to show me as a proof that he sent me the money!

Correction here, India is not under any kind of watch by WU. I usually get my payment through WU from those who can't pay me via PayPal, Bank Transfer or Credit/Debit Card (2CO).

I would say if WU can't find the payment, it's possible your friend hasn't sent the payment. Payments in "holding department" are usually a key part of many scams on the internet...

My friend called them and they asked for receivers scanned copy of National ID card and other details like place of birth, date of birth etc and than they released it!

u r wrong, India isn't under any kind of surveillance, I HAVE recd. all my payments promptly on the same day with out any probs, I HAVE my friends who haven't had problem yet with neither western union nor moneygram

no it was actually NZ government who blocked my money as my country is on their highly watched list!
