View Full Version : Checking out problem in Godaddy

Strange incident here...

This is the first time I am registering a domain name with Godaddy, so after selecting a desired domain name, I was prompted to fill up the 'billing information'. I duly did what was instructed but upon checking out, it kept saying that my transaction cannot be completed. This is despite the fact that I have yet to enter my credit card number. So here, it is clear that the problem does not lie in my credit card.

When my brother took over and tried to register the domain, he changed some of the details such as the City name and Country before he tried to check out. This time, we were brought to a page telling us to fill in our credit card details. Of course this failed as the address of the credit card does not match those that we filled in.

I called their customer service and they said that there is nothing much they can do about it too. They claim that my country/city does not allow us to register with them....

How true is this? I am currently residing in Singapore. I do not have problem with registering domain name with my host provider.

Does anyone has a solution? Coz I wish to take up their unlisted service which other don't seem to offer. Thanks for any help.

Singapore=Blocked due to fraud

I can't believe this. Even Singapore is blocked?!

I know that PayPal has been discriminatively treating members from certain parts of the world, including some Asian and Eastern European countries. That makes me sick. I thought this kind of measures, temporarily or not, are only used by VERY small businesses which cannot afford dealing with credit card fraud.

To my knowledge, Singapore is among the 25 most developed country in the world, fairing much better than in all aspects (except perhaps democracy) than many European countries like Spain and Portugal. And if GoDaddy is blocking Singapore, then 3/4 of the world should be blocked as well.

Well developed or not, they must be causing an extreme amount of fraud for GoDaddy to block them.

Oh great...... This is what I got from them.

We are unable to process transactions originating from the following countries:

Bulgaria
China (incl. Hong Kong)
Indonesia
Malaysia
Pakistan
Singapore

Also, the US Government asks that we do not conduct business with these nations:

Cuba
Iran
Iraq
Libya
North Korea
Sudan
Syria

Unfortunately, if you reside in any of these countries, you will not be able to
complete a purchase from Go Daddy Software. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I guess Godaddy is out for me then....

Does anyone have any idea where I can get the unlisted service other than Godaddy?

Just wanted to tell you that paypal does not block Singapore. I live in Singapore and I made a transaction of $15 via Paypal sometime early this year.. unless they changed their policy :)

I've only seen GoDaddy's DomainsByProxy offer private registration. They claim it's their patented idea:
"The patent-supported registration"

If that's true you might be SOL.

That makes me sick. I thought this kind of measures, temporarily or not, are only used by VERY small businesses which cannot afford dealing with credit card fraud.

Why does this make you sick nameslave? Dealing with fraud is a very expensive and time consuming issue. If you ran a company that has a worldwide customer base like GD you may feel differently. We even looked into the possibility of opening up sales for Singapore but after researching the numbers, felt it was still in our best interest to not allow this. (that should give you an idea of how much fraud is generated by Singapore---It's not that we don't want to sell to people in these countries, obviously we do, but the number don't add up.) It's a wise business decision IMO.

Hello
We block Indonesia and Malaysia because we never had a genuine order from these countries but we have always kept Singapore open.
We have never had a stolen card passed from Singapore
and have a few regular customers there.

Singapore is "de facto" a western country and quite different in culture to a Malaysia.
