I just had a rather disgusting experience with fogcityhosting.com

I am posting it here to give a heads ups to be careful when dealing with them. I ordered 3 items from them on ebay. I ended up not needing the items so I contacted him and asked to please issue me a refund since I had just ordered the items and only had them for 2 or 3 days and he has a 30 day money back guarentee.

Rather than simply issue me a refund he resorts to CURSING at me. This is what led up to that:

Since in his mind I didn't give him a "good enough" reason to issue me a refund he decided to REFUSE to do so. I then told him "server was slow" as a reason. I emailed him a few times to please issue the refund and HONOR his 30 day money back guarantee. He starts to REPEATEDLY curse at me via email that since I "didn't provide good enough reason" he refuses to refund the money. He also sent me an email that said "Go f**k yourself d**k head".

He also wrote to me the following comments:

"Learn how to use ebay you f**king idiot". As well as "Go f**k yourself".

I saved ALL emails with FULL headers as proof. I am not only shocked but rather disgusted with that scammer. After him doing the above mentioned I went and left him negative feedback. This obviously really, for a lack of a better term, ticked him off.

I was forced to open payment disputes at paypal in attempt to get my money back. As if this wasn't bad enough and being CURSED at numerouis times he suddenly takes it upon himself to reply to the paypal disputes and LIE through his teeth and said that I was spamming from my account. I NEVER even used the accounts and trust me he KNOWS this!!!! This part was actually the most INFURIATING that he would lie purposefully!!!! He was simply trying to stop the paypal dispute and make it go in his favor!!!

I had to call my CC company yesterday and do a chargeback to regain the money he basically stole from me since it was a service (not a tangible item) I ordered I don't know if paypal will honor the dispute?

Thank You,
Lisa

I think you'll be alright Lisa. I've never been in this issue with eBay in terms of a service before..only items that never showed up BUT if he claims a money back guarantee and didn't honor that I don't see why PayPal would rule in his/her favor.

In regards to the actual web hosting "company" I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. The best advice I can give you is to research and double and triple check reviews and I wish you the best of luck!

The nerve of some people!

Unfortunately there are many scammers and scummy sellers on ebay.. which is why recently ebay instituted the policy that ebay sellers can not give negatives so buyers can warn people of the bad apples without retaliatory feedback.

If you paid via credit card with paypal, paypal would have ruled in your favor (so you didn't have to do the chargeback with your credit card most likely unless for some reason paypal didn't find in your favor, but i'm almost 99% sure they would have).

Sorry to hear about your experience :).. but you'll get your money back - just try to forget about it. You might want to try http://www.jaguarpc.com/.. I had a site with them for years and it was very good.

Lucikly paypal ended the dispute today in my favor so I managed to get my money back =)

"fogcityhost" is his ebay user ID. I believe it is a child running that as he certainly didn't behave rationally. Last time I checked cursing repeatedly at the customer when he/she simply requests a refund just 2 or 3 days after placing the order isn't acceptable!

Sorry to hear about your experience.

One thing I would recommend is to stay away from hosting companies selling there services on ebay, as most reputable hosts do not use this method.

Wow thats pretty terrible, its good to hear that you got the money back though! It's why eBay and PayPal work the way they do, to prevent people like that from scamming

I dont agree. I have personally used e-bay for my first shared hosting account and had no complaints. The service was GREAT and the price was more then fair.

HOWEVER there are 3 exceptions for buying on e-bay
1) NEVER buy from a company who refuses to display the name of their company. You need to do your research first.
2) RESEARCH the seller, can you find any positive or negitive seller reviews. Research the company as well.
3) NEVER buy "Hosting for Life". It is ALWAYS a scam.

Ans Lisa. I am sorry to hear about your treatment, It is best to leave a review at WebHostingStuff.com

fogcityhosting.com is using www.resellerspanel.com.
This is one of their templates. Note the support phone numbers and the other similarities.

It might be worth sending an e mail to resellerspanel to inform them of this jerk.

hmmmm just had a look at his website.. seems better then others and says over 20,000 happy customers.. If he is what Lisa is saying then I highly doubt these numbers..And looking at his website looks like a decent scam he is running.. Can fool people easily.. Cannot blame poor Lisa for trusting this guy...

Looks like a very new host to me, despite their claim:
WHO ARE WE?
All web hosting services are provided by Fog City Hosting, a United States based company, headquartered in San Francisco, CA. For us, it is not just about statistics or competition, it is about caring for people since 2003.

Actually, their "partner", Resellerspanel, is operating since that time, so it's probably taken from their sales piece.

Surely, advertising on ebay doesn't make a host bad. But experiences such as this have helped create the notion of "ebay hosts" being the cousins of "kiddy hosts". :)

seems better then others and says over 20,000 happy customers.. Done that in 3 months or so. They must be marketing wizards. :)

Hi Lisa before you got your money back did paypal force you to ship item back to him? Seem's you got your money back rather quick because paypal then makes sure he gets his items back and just not some random box. This is normally a 90 day process quite interesting.

seoweb,

No, all I did was open the dispute. Then only a few days later I called paypal on the phone and also sent them the emails he sent to me where he was cusring me out and calling me names. They didn't even require it but I wanted to send it to paypal and also ebay anyway. I don't think ebay will do anything though with this jerk. Was hoping to get his account suspended. They immediately closed the dispute and I had my money back within only a few minutes. Since I bought the item on ebay, paypal has some form of extra protection for ebay transactions.

The name of the hosting is strange allready. However, mostly if they are accepting paypal they know they do have to follow the refund policies!
