View Full Version : HostingCon - Paying for badges
mdrussell 04-13-2009, 08:34 AM This isn't a dig at inet, I think everyone's had their say with the recent issues. This is more a real concern of mine and something I think that should be considered.
I am unwilling to buy a HostingCon badge online through Inet's system at present. I simply do not trust the systems in place.
Can those of us that have attended HostingCon before or who make a firm reservation pay upon registration just using a point of sale card terminal, without being penalized and charged a much higher fee?
And before anyone says, cancelling a card that has a lot of auto payments on and is used for every day business life is a hassle I don't really want to go through.
wb-Jay 04-13-2009, 09:47 AM It was my understanding that they moved their Payment system to a 3rd party gateway? Is this not true?
hyperspin 04-13-2009, 11:16 AM Why not pay with PayPal if that is available?
larry2148 04-13-2009, 01:06 PM As far as I know the only CC info compromised was on a old system that stored CC numbers. The new system doesn't save them I don't think?
Paypal would be a good option, then you only have to worry about them sending you lots of money:agree:
IRCCo Jeff 04-13-2009, 03:00 PM Send a check maybe?
SoftWareRevue 04-13-2009, 05:23 PM ...I am unwilling to buy a HostingCon badge online through Inet's system at present...The HostingCon didn't make use of the system in question. Payments are made through Authorize.net's gateway. We'll be adding PayPal as an option soon.

sailor 04-13-2009, 06:20 PM can we pay at the door?
I have even transitioned to having my password here as unique to this site only so I dont have to run change everything at other sites any more.
Eleven2 Hosting 04-14-2009, 12:09 AM I would only come if we could pay at the door for the same price here online.
I simply do not trust my credit card here, or passwords.

I simply do not trust my credit card here, or passwords.Your credit card isn't stored here, or with iNET anywhere.
I doubt that paying at the door will be an option. Please note, this is not an official response, it's only based on the need for these types of events to have an accurate count of attendees in advance of the show, to be able to order food, etc.
WII-Aaron 04-15-2009, 05:55 PM I don't know if this is an option or not but can you pay by phone or maybe mail in your registration?
RyanD 04-15-2009, 07:04 PM Previous years allowed registration at the door for people that wanted to go in.
I don't care about the technicalities of what system was and was not compromised at this point it was a massive compromise and you, Inet, have lost my confidence in your ability to keep information secure. While you may regain my trust in time I'm not ready to give you any information that can cause further damage (wasted time) on our end.
If there aren't options for purchasing on the spot or via a method where I'm not entering my information on any of inet's systems I simply won't go this year.
The amount of wasted time I had to put into tracking down information, updating our corporate amexes, etc, etc cost me significantly more in lost productivity than the cost of admission to HostingCon.
SecureGrid 04-15-2009, 07:42 PM I don’t trust them with any of my infomation anymore, since they’ve screwed up once, I’m sure it will happen again at some point, so it might be adviseble to avoid giving them any details at all.
Like I’m going to be doing, if they don’t offer other options, then they will not see us there. Simple as that
Great topic though.

Similar to previous years, we will certainly accept registrations at the door. But, just like in previous years, we won't be able to offer the deeply discounted prices at the door that we are offering right now. As SoftwareRevue mentioned above, we have very high F&B and space rental costs that have to be budgeted accurately ahead of time. If a large amount of unplanned attendees show up the day of the event, it could cause the event to be less enjoyable and productive for all attendees because we haven't planned appropriately for their comfort, and it will cost a hefty premium to add services and classroom space at the last minute.
In an effort to make you feel more comfortable, you can certainly pay us via check, by sending an email to info@hostingcon.com. Our Trade Show Manager will give you the details and help you get registered. We are also working on a PayPal solution, which was never an option in the past. When we acquired HostingCon 9 months ago, we left the payment options as they were under the previous owners, using Authorize.net. No credit card data has ever been stored for HostingCon, and we are not planning to change this. HostingCon was never part of the old "my iNETinteractive" billing system which is where the breach occurred.
I hope you know that we take this matter very seriously. Please let us know if you have any other suggestions for how we can help you feel more comfortable.
