I see all kinds of people on here saying things like

"Oh, DummyHOST is excellent, they always answer my requests within atleast 6 hours!"

Here I am thinking WTF??? 6 HOURS????

How can people stand sitting there for 6 hours? I guess not everyone runs a mission critical business. Or maybe people just don't care enough?

I don't know about you guys, but my clients are answered within 5-15 minutes usually. Yet here are hosts answering people "Within a few hours"

Maybe i'm just being unreasonable. I mean imagine it. You need your kernel recompiled, but you're not willing to risk trying it on your own remotely. So you figure it will be safer/better if your host does it locally, that way they can fix things if it goes wrong.

Say you need this right away, and your host tells you that its going to be done the next morning. Next morning arrives nothing happens. 3pm you complain, then around 4pm they finally LOGIN your server.. But they won't do anything becuase they need to get the "feel" of the configuration/system ???

I just get SO damn frustrated with some hosts, it drives me ****ing insane.

I can't stand downtime, and i can't stand sitting here for 6+ hours waiting for something

I just don't understand some people on here think 6+ hours is just sooo acceptable now.

I don't think it's acceptable at all. I don't like sitting here waiting hours and hours for my host, so neither should my clients.

BUSY?? Too many requests?? GET more support staff. it's simple.

So what do you think? AM I being unreasonable? I usually never require any support (because i'm pretty good with linux. i manage all 13 of my servers)..

Once in awhile, i do require some support.. And when I do, it pisses me off so ****ing much because I'm waiting like an entire DAY..

note: im not just talking about downtime. i'm talking about just host response time in general. it can include downtime too i guess.

ir's different for me, I can send a plea for help and you may get it at 4.00 am and you're asleep

it could then be 6 hours before you reply, and I'd be happy with that response, it would be quick for me

you said it yourself

I guess not everyone runs a mission critical business.

Some people are satisfied with 6 hour response times...

How about 6 hours for a reboot? Or a couple hours for my server to come back up? Forget about getting through on the phone.

Makes me think of a certain $49 dedicated server provider . . .

Oh, wait, they're okay because "you get what you pay for," as everyone around here has been reminding me. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's a good deal.

yeah
heh

Pisses me off man.. I ask for what kind of mobo my server uses, and what chipset, and they said ok they'll email me with it.

Its been 7 hours now..

That's it. SIMPLE STUFF..

ALL they have to do is EMAIL me with two simple pieces of information. Is it really that difficult???

I rarely ever talk to my hosts. Never need any kind of support (just once in awhile, or when its something i cant control)

THE LEAST they can do is just answer me in a timely manner.

7+ hours is not acceptable in my book.

but i feel for ya. hours for a reboot is even worse.

Dude its like 10:35pm and tomorrow is a school day. Like 90% of the hosts here are in bed by now. They will get to your ticket after school/homework/chores tomorrow.

Unless they get tomorrow off since its Halloween. Then you'll get a decent response time.

school/homework/chores

is this real ?

so a kid goes to school, comes home, does a bit of homework, weeds the garden, goes to the shop for his mum and then sits down to answer support tickets ?

the mind boggles

LOL @ the school comments :D

I think they need to be separated into server providers and hosting providers.

For a shared hosting customer getting an answer to their support tickets, many would see 4-6 hours as reasonable.

For a dedicated server customer getting support/assistance from their provider then 6 hours is far too long in my opinion. In fact I wouldn't deal with any provider without 24/7 staff on hand as well as a very quick response time.
