Hi guys!

Have a question about web hosting.

I want to have my own service. What do i need for this?

Is it enough to have an static ip address to run own web hosting?

Thank you

You need to ask this ? in the webhosting biz section of this web board...

someone might chime in to answer thought.

just to clarify: do you want to just host your own website, or do you actually want to have paying customers?

if it is the latter, spend a few months on the forums here and go read a few books ;)

ah ok...

yes, a static IP is all you need to host your own website(s) on your own computer. here's a basic overview:

you'll need some sort of server software (windows 98/Me includes Personal WebServer, you can use NT, *nix, etc) and set it up to host your websites. you'll also need DNS servers.

for free DNS service, you can use zoneedit.com. set your nameservers to zoneedit's and then login to zoneedit.com and create an A record that points to your static IP.

why the basic overview:
it's not worth the time, nor the security risk. using your computer as a webserver opens up a lot of security holes. also, your DSL provider may prohibit you from running any type of server. it will be easier to go with a paid host. not only will you get support, but you wont have to deal with the "background" functions, like updating the server software, keeping your mail up and running, etc...

it's possible, but i wouldn't recommend it ;)

i will use linux server for this, i know how to secure apache web server and to update software :)

My provider allows to run a web server.

I don't want to use remote hosting because you pay for that, they will not provide you software you need.

well then as long as you know what you're doing...go for it.

just remember your connected to a relatively slow pipe, but if its only personal sites, it shouldn't matter much ;)

are there other services like zoneedit.com?
