mero23 04-06-2009, 08:45 PM after visiting their site and trying to sign up for their plan i got shocked when i noticed that the real price of the plans isn't the one listed on the home page
i think it's a kind of non professional work and i want to share the whole chat with you to judge them

StartYourServer enters the chatroom.
StartYourServer 2:24:24 AM
Hello mero, welcome to StartYourServer! Let me tell you about two things:
(1)We are now paying affiliates $100 for every person they get to signup for hosting with us! Find our more information about it here:
(2) We have a new coupon that will give you 99% off your first month of hosting. Here it is: NEWBIE
How may I help you?
mero 2:24:50 AM
sir am asking about ur plans
i can't understand your fees
StartYourServer 2:25:03 AM
What questions do you have mero?
What are you having trouble understanding about them?
mero 2:25:41 AM
the personal plan at the home page states that the fees is 7 $ monthly
but when i choosed it it came 24 $
what that supposed to mean
StartYourServer 2:26:54 AM
You will need to refresh the cache in FireFox. Click on Tools at the top of the browser and then click on Clear Private Data
You browser is loading the images from the first time you visited our website. We updated our prices just minutes ago.
mero 2:27:43 AM
so the package now is 24$ per month
StartYourServer 2:28:05 AM
Yes, and you get 5x more space and bandwidth than the old plan.
However, the coupons all still work.
You can still get 99% of by using the coupon NEWBIE
mero 2:29:42 AM
so what is the new price for the unlimited reseller hosting?
StartYourServer 2:30:45 AM
The price for the Unlimited Plan is $99.99/month. These are all our normal prices. The $7/month for the Personal plan was a promotion that we have been running for the past month. But, we have now moved the plans back to their normal prices.
mero 2:32:06 AM
so just in one minute the plan prices got 90 $ over per month
so unproffesional
i think u r just a scam sir
StartYourServer 2:32:29 AM
No, we sent out a notice to our members about this.
mero 2:32:35 AM
bad service at all
StartYourServer 2:32:56 AM
Mero, our normal price is $99.
mero 2:33:04 AM
LoooooL i got that
StartYourServer 2:33:11 AM
The prices you saw before were part of a special promotion.
mero 2:33:27 AM
nothing on the page saying any thing abt promo
StartYourServer 2:34:01 AM
It was not a promo for the public. It was being run for members in our Premium Affiliate Program.
mero 2:34:21 AM
i got u from webhostingtalk and i'll give u a very hot review back
and i'll copy the whole chat and paste it there
StartYourServer 2:34:50 AM
You may do that if you wish too.
railto 04-06-2009, 08:47 PM thanks for the heads up, do you care to identify yourself, to me this looks like an add going by the content of the first block of lines,
even if this is legit, StartYourServer have done nothing wrong per-se, and in actual fact it makes you look like you dont understand what you are being told.
StartYourServer 04-06-2009, 08:51 PM Mero,
Our real prices are the ones that are on our homepage. You may need to clear the cache in your browser so that the newly updated prices will load for you. If you do not know how to clear the cache in your browser then you can read this tutorial on it: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/maintenance/ht/clearcacheff.htm
Thank you for bringing this to everyone elses attention as well. Anyone who has visited our website before may need to refresh their cache in order to see several new images as well as different pricing.
Mero, we understand that it is frustrating to see the wrong prices on a website. However, we have no control over your browser's cache.
Thanks for understanding.
DigitalLinx 04-06-2009, 09:07 PM I fail to see the lack of professionalism, providers are free to change their pricing at any time they see fit and blaming a host that it's a scam for changing their pricing is completely blown out of proportion and considered libel.
StartYourServer 04-06-2009, 09:14 PM I fail to see the lack of professionalism, providers are free to change their pricing at any time they see fit and blaming a host that it's a scam for changing their pricing is completely blown out of proportion and considered libel.
Thank you for supporting us on this issue. Let me take the time to make one thing clear: Our price change will not effect any of our current customers. We will never raise the price of hosting for a current customer.
njoker555 04-06-2009, 10:29 PM this reminds me of when my company raised prices months ago - had a guy that complained for "suddenly" changing prices when the host reserves the right to change prices at any time for any reason. I also don't see the lack of professionalism because I know many people have gone through the same thing.
What would you have done if the price had actually gone down? Doubt you would have said anything :)
iHubNet-Matt 04-08-2009, 03:57 PM Reading that chat log I could not find any thing wrong from the host's side.
so just in one minute the plan prices got 90 $ over per month
That can happen if they have updated the prices just a minute ago.
You can ask why the price is different from the site. But if they explain their reason you have to admit if it is legit. Also you have the right to select them or not if the price is not suitable for you. But what is the meaning in blaming them for increasing the prices.
DephNet[Paul] 04-08-2009, 04:10 PM so is the "Unlimited" Reseller plan $20 or $100? It is still saying $20 on your home page, same with your billing system.
larry2148 04-08-2009, 04:10 PM I agree, if the site is now displaying the updating pricing you were just unlucky in that you viewed their site at the same time they updated the pricing. The support looks very professional and attempted to explain the pricing even... People come over to web hosting talk, sign up for an account just to get back at a host they think has done them wrong? Seems like accounts like this should be banned right away anyway...
-EDIT-
Pricing on the site is still 19.99, same with the billing system too though...
eclouds 04-08-2009, 04:21 PM I have to say you were the one that lacked professionalism in the chat. Calling them a scam immediately without even considering the fact that they reserve the right to do what they want with it at any time. This thread shouldn't even exist.
dennyjames 04-08-2009, 05:55 PM Looks like just the usual new member who joins solely to flame a host that they think has done them wrong. No hello thread or anything else by them, just the one post complaining. I think the majority of people reading this will know who to trust.

Well i'm seeing old prices on his site it's like they are randomly switching, however an affiliate forum i am a member there's many people having issues being paid from this host.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=StartYourServer+scam&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=
Also there was a thread here just the other day about the www.startyourserver.com design being borrowed from www.justhost.com
I have also had spam on my forum promoting them.
So, for me i have come across 4 separate issues surrounding this host in as many days.
larry2148 04-09-2009, 03:32 PM Ignore - duplicate post
larry2148 04-09-2009, 03:35 PM Hm, that's pretty bizzare.
I wonder if their site is based on a template?
Interesting also they both have really really over-excited girls on the banner, like some kind of weird clown smiles:
Clown Face Pic (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xdxyo7LiWhA/R17oUp5VswI/AAAAAAAAARI/coJa4bBQAgo/s400/23129435.jpg)
yourcologuru 04-09-2009, 03:58 PM I've seen hundreds of spam postings for them on sitepoint.com...
Basically someone is trashing all the comment boxes on sitepoint listings by saying the following...
"I used to do what your doing now... buying and selling websites.. but now I dont, check out startyourserver.com"
I was frustrated because they trashed the comments section on a few of my auctions ...
I'm not sure why someone would be doing this unless they were an affiliate for them ... but it wasn't too cool.
1boss1 04-09-2009, 03:59 PM No the original was custom done in house by JustHost.com
I wish i could link to the 4 page thread surrounding this host, however it's in a private forum. However, do you see a problem here?
http://www.startyourserver.com/affiliates.html
We will pay you $100 for every person you get to signup for hosting. We pay immediately after every 10 people you get to signup! That means if you get 10 people to signup every day, then you will be receiving payouts from us every day!
We have created 5 special coupons for our affiliates to use when marketing. By using these coupons, the people you refer will only have to pay one cent for their first month of hosting! Here are the coupons:
Personal Plan Coupon: 1CentPersonal
Starter Plan Coupon: 1CentStarter
Advanced Plan Coupon: 1CentAdvanced
Pro Plan Coupon: 1CentPro
Unlimited Plan Coupon: 1CentUnlimited
So you get 10 people to sign up for 1 cent today, tomorrow you get $1,000.
Ahh Houston?

oy, well dang, that's a heck of a payout. I'd like to hear from someone that actually got a 1100$ payout;)
Odd. I see the prices as $7
Not $99
The google search showed a lot of Scam reports.
Either way, hosts do have the right to change pricing as they see fit. Don't see any problem in that.
GigeWeb 04-09-2009, 06:27 PM I have no idea what is going on, how does the chat go from old prices go to stealing a design from another company. I did not see any wrong that the hosting provider did, as they are entitled to change the prices at anytime but I believe that all prices at first should be high and lower them down as you see fit, you should never raise your prices but the host could of left them where they were at which makes no sense as I still see $19.99 but anyway left them where they were at and just provide a discount coupon code to get that plan for an X amount each month.
A company starting keep your prices high and see what happens, you can always lower your prices, one thing that is hard is raising your prices.
IGXHost 04-09-2009, 06:29 PM I also see the old prices (I think) if the "Unlimited" plan is still showing "Only $19.99 per month".
Maybe it's better to use text instead of images for the pricing :)
HBMhosting 04-10-2009, 04:29 AM Mero, we understand that it is frustrating to see the wrong prices on a website. However, we have no control over your browser's cache.
I'm not taking sides here in anyway as I think both sides have fairly valid complaints, you actually can control the users browser cache by coding your website not to cache on a users browser so it retreives a fresh copy each time. While doing this may not work 100% of the time, I'm fairly certain it's well covered with all standard browsing platforms.
ldcdc 04-10-2009, 10:15 AM I also see the old prices (I think) if the "Unlimited" plan is still showing "Only $19.99 per month". I see the same.
I even went as far as to simulate an order, and I still got:
Reseller Hosting Accounts - Unlimited Reseller Hosting
Unlimited Space
Unlimited Bandwidth
Host Unlimited Websites
Billing Cycle
19.99USD monthly
Certainly that's not my browser's cache. ;)
beware!

im join as affiliate and promote their website, after im collect 10 poeple to buy hosting, and they status active, i want to request for payment as he promise on the website
We will pay you $100 for every person you get to signup for hosting. The best thing of all is that we don't make you wait 30 to 90 days to receive your money like most hosting affiliate programs do. We pay immediately after every 10 people you get to signup! That means if you get 10 people to signup every day, then you will be receiving payouts from us every day!

beware!!
Jonathan J 04-15-2009, 06:14 PM Not surprising considering that other thread with StartYourServer suggesting talking to JustHost.com about the ripped hosting design... then later JustHost.com coming on and saying that they had no contact from StartYourServer. (And that they were indeed using a design illegally) This issue isn't exactly isolated with them spamming sitepoint. (http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/listings/63017)
Shady IMHO.
Though the original "chat" with StartYourServer, on this thread... I see nothing wrong from their side.
DocCee 05-04-2009, 03:17 PM For those of you who doubt the claims of unprofessional behavior from startyourserver.com, they have been offline (and so have ALL their CPanel reseller clients) for more than 48 hours now, with no warning or explanation and they are not responding to calls. They are being flagged as scammers everywhere, and with good reason.
SkyNetHosting 05-04-2009, 03:46 PM www.startyourserver.com seems to be down at the moment, any one else notice it?

DocCee 05-04-2009, 04:21 PM Not only have I noticed it, I posted a notice in the message just previous to yours. I've been running a test "unlimited" reseller account with them for a few months and I'm certainly glad I didn't transfer all of my hosting clients.
My sympathies to those of you who are trying to explain to your hosting clients why their domains aren't online now.
Doc
I am still trying to find these unlimited drives, many host have them as they are offering unlimited... but nobody sells them :bawling:
Lagniappe-labgeek 05-04-2009, 06:05 PM I'm certainly not defending them as there's a LOT to be suspicious of... but looking through the 1st page of those scam reports on that google search it looks to me like 1 or 2 people posting everywhere they could. Just the fact that they offer $100 payouts at 10 user for $0.01 signups suggests MORE than enough 'issues' with this host that I wouldn't sign up as an affiliate.
DephNet[Paul] 05-04-2009, 06:14 PM I am still trying to find these unlimited drives, many host have them as they are offering unlimited... but nobody sells them :bawling:I can sell you one. It would cost you $unlimited though.
