View Full Version : Direct Admin or LxAdmin ???
koolnhot 04-06-2009, 06:51 AM Direct Admin or LxAdmin which is preferred.
I was offered free directadmin by the host for one of their plan I was about to purchase, where lx is already free. I am used to lxadmin features and have good knowledge about them
I am not askin about support, as I might not b needin too much depth support, I use cp only for just basic work such as domain setup, redirect, ftp account setup, file transfer and settin mail accounts
I use lighthttpd so suggestions based on them would be good
waveweb 04-06-2009, 07:06 AM Hello,
Lxadmin it is a great product that uses low resources
Directadmin it is also a great product
for what you need, I belive lxadmin will be better, since you are not concern with support and probably want something that will use low resources.
SoFiMaN 04-06-2009, 07:19 AM LxAdmin is a great one, we use it on many VPS's and dedicated servers and its working like a charm.
coeplicltd 04-06-2009, 08:31 AM run vmware or something and run both :P
BH-Greg 04-06-2009, 08:44 AM cPanel is really good should get that but if you can't then get DirectAdmin.
tsj5j 04-06-2009, 11:29 AM I find LxAdmin pretty user-unfriendly.
Besides it's interface quirks (and totally bad design), it's backend is pretty solid.
Personally, I would choose DirectAdmin though.
JohnJ 04-06-2009, 06:57 PM Personally, I'd choose Directadmin. :)
singh-admin 04-07-2009, 12:09 AM Personal opinion = DirectAdmin (simple GUI)
LxAdmin is a bit confusing to me.
teachforjune-Scott 04-07-2009, 02:05 AM I've never used LxAdmin, but I prefer DA over cPanel any day! :)

Agreed, LxAdmin is yes too many buttons you always end up loosing where you are.
Deem3nŽ 04-08-2009, 03:31 PM I'd choose DA
ValueVPS-Dave 04-08-2009, 04:04 PM DirectAdmin for me - LXadmin is ok if you have no problems. If you hit problems get ready for a very long wait for a reply in the LXLabs forums as their support leaves a lot to be desired.
nicolas_ 04-08-2009, 05:55 PM DA is good. I switched from cPanel to DA on the basis that DA doesnt take much resources compared to cPanel and most of my clients really like DA's control panel interface. I tried LXAdmin and it is not as user friendly as one would think it would be but it works, just confusing to me that's all. :)
DHD-Chris 04-08-2009, 06:01 PM It saddens me to have to reccomend DirectAdmin however I must say our clients have more issues with LXAdmin than DA
teachforjune-Scott 04-08-2009, 07:47 PM Why would it sadden you to recommend DA? DA's a GREAT panel.
ldroom 04-09-2009, 04:44 AM I would suggest DirectAdmin. I use this one for years. It has great support, community. With DA API you can do almost everything without loging to control panel. It may run with Lighttpd instead of apache. With Custom Build you can smoothly update PHP, MySQL etc...
mastreo 04-09-2009, 05:02 AM As you have mentioned u use lighthttpd, I am not sure if other control panels other than lxAdmin support lighthttpd.
coeplicltd 04-09-2009, 05:04 AM Directadmin works great with lighttpd
ldroom 04-09-2009, 05:05 AM Agree, and it may be built-in in standard DA installation.

I never knew that :( I might have chosen DA if I knew it earlier, any how got no probs with lxadmin as I use it just for simple use
coeplicltd 04-09-2009, 05:07 AM Also, DA support is great and they know what they are doing
I used only DirectAdmin and cPanel
I find DA is faster but I don't like that you can't extract zip files like cPanel do:confused:
I would like to use LXAdmin and I wonder if it can extract zip files too ? anybody know ????
teachforjune-Scott 04-10-2009, 12:02 AM You can extract zip files in the file manager with DirectAdmin. You need to install zip to the server and enable it in DA's config files, but you can do it. Out of the box, it does have support for tar.gz files.
