hi all,
i'm looking for a _reliable_ email-only hosting provider.
i don't need webspace. just need unlimited email address and aliases. allow for POP3 access. URL redirection too. Wanna keep costs low to maybe less than USD$100 per year.
would be nice if any provider can throw in 1 free webpage (5mb + unlimited transfer - asking too much) ?
know any web provider with the above specs ??? thanks for the forums responses in advance. :-)
cheers
peter

Now's the time to test those hosts who advertise unlimited pop emails eh? Who knows if they offer unlimited transfer with all those???
Ok, enough of the unlimted, I said it so no one else would. Good luck in your searching, someone will reply soon :)
Maybe this should be in the advertising thread so hosts can respond here.

I've been using Digital Space since 1998, and while they used to have a lot of downtime back then, I've been monitoring my accounts there with Internetseer for the past 8 months, and can honestly say that I've had 100% uptime on all my accounts (which are spread out on different servers).
They have a package for $3 per month which gives you unlimited email accounts (POP3 and IMAP4), and unlimited email forwarders. This works out at $36 per year, which shouldn't be too much.
This package also includes 10 megs of space, and 2.5 GB of transfers. You also get your own static IP and an anonymous FTP account. Transfers are only HTTP, so email and anonymous FTP aren't included. I know for a fact that they back up their servers daily because once I uploaded some new files, and the hard disk of the server my account was on crashed and had to be replaced. They replaced it and then they restored it from backups, with my newly uploaded files and message board still fine.
I don't work there or anything, just a happy customer. :)
Actually, here are 2 things I don't like about them: support, while sincere, can take days to respond (so for example if you need them to set up a MySQL database, be prepared to wait up to a week). Plus, signing up is a hassle because they don't really like taking new customers anymore.. so after you sign up you might have to bug them about it or call them up.
And before I forget, they are at http://www.digitalspace.net.
Wishing you the best of luck. Some of the hosts here, including WeinBar (http://www.weinbar.com), have some excellent offers as well. Just shop around and see what looks best, but don't go for "unlimited bandwidth" -- it never is unlimited, it's just a marketing trick.

I host several domains with them. One of them is www.avara.org. This is hosted on their $3/month plan. You can also check out my anonymous ftp site at ftp://ftp.avara.org and test that. :)
Internetseer accesses my web site every 5 minutes, and tells me that I have had 100.0% uptime so far this year. I also never had a problem with my email, and find the support for IMAP4 very useful.

hi all,
thanks for your feedback. I found digitalspace.net too. looks promising. any one had a problem / bad experience with them ???
at $3/mth with 10mb and unlimited email address /aliases I'm a happy camper.
will have to get used to not having web-based email services.
cheers

p/s - thanks for the tip on unlimited bandwidth - not quite the same meaning.... :)
