View Full Version : Reseller with VPS?
kotlt 04-05-2009, 08:50 AM Hello , i'm in hosting business. And i have some questions, hope you will feel free to help me.
- Can i become a reseller with VPS linux ? Which software should i use ? What is the minimum spec. of VPS if i want to run about 20 client shared-hosting( non overselling ).
- How to reseller VPS Windows ?
neXeon 04-05-2009, 09:02 AM You should get a CentOS 5 VPS with cPanel, most any package will handle 20 shared hosting accounts.

Thank you.
Another question : I'm not a us citizen, but i want to resell hosting/ VPS from US datacenter. Is it a big trouble ?
teachforjune-Scott 04-05-2009, 10:08 AM Not an issue at all as long as you're not from one of the countries with which the US has an economic embargo.

Yeah, But when client go into billing page and they see a non-us citizen selling a us hosting, do they...?
StartYourServer 04-05-2009, 02:50 PM That depends, are you going to be advertising the fact that your using a US datacenter?
teachforjune-Scott 04-05-2009, 07:44 PM How would the buyers see that you're not a us-citizen on the billing page???
I don't get what you mean.
ldcdc 04-06-2009, 08:45 AM What is the minimum spec. of VPS if i want to run about 20 client shared-hosting( non overselling ). Depends on the shared hosting package specifications, and the type of sites hosted on them. You could sell 100GBs of data transfer in total, and still overload the ~350MB RAM VPS that comes with 500GB of data transfer.
There's no silver bullet here.
teachforjune-Scott 04-06-2009, 12:51 PM It all depends on the types of sites you'll be hosting and their demand on the server. With cPanel, I wouldn't start with less than 512MB (probably much more). 512MB is the bare minimum and there wouldn't be much left over to run the websites. 768MB ram would be what I would start off with and then monitor the resources for the sites. If you notice high resource usage, or that you're going into burst/swam memory often, you will need to upgrade the VPS to accommodate. Just remember to take of an average of 350MB of RAM for cPanel to run (more as more sites are added).

Get two VPS containers (One Linux, One Windows) and install your preferred control panel software. Setup your billing software (e.g. WHCMS) for automated provisioning and you've got yourself a nice little web hosting operation.

So basically you would have two separate vps's and that way the customer can choose if they want linux or windows?

I think a VPS plan is an overkill for something like that, but not a crappy vps plan that costs $20/mo Those companies are rip offs!
Go with a nice sized Reseller package, a company that offers 24x7 support, and billing software and upgrade as needed.

That's right.

Would it be better to just start off with a small VPS and then upgrade the VPS along the way? It seems that VPS would offer more reliability then a standard Reseller package would.
Also, how hard is it to transfer everything from a reseller package on shared hosting to a VPS with having no downtime?
