Well I have seen and talked to hosts that will say things like f******** you if you disagree with them or they lie constantly about there clients. give away personal information etc. and they have good buisness. now I have seen many others that are loyal friendly and dont lie to there customers and are barely making enough to cover server costs. may I ask what the bad but successfull hosts are doing thats working out so well over the good hosts

Maybe they have a bigger budget to invest into things such as advertising, seo etc. Small hosts may not have a similar budget and can not afford to do such things.
Extreme overselling could be another factor.

Promising things which they can't provide?
I can never understand this either; although remember that there *are* scammy hosts with barely any clients, and *good* hosts with many clients. Hence it's not all black and white :)

Wow. Well, let me tell you, if a representative from a hosting company ever swore at me or was rude to me, I'd cancel their service like that.
Having said that, not all people employed in the customer service line of work are actually good at it.
Since large hosts probably have more than one customer service rep, i'd say that the customers probably experience a mixture of responses from the CSRs. If the host always lies, well then sooner or later they will be found out.
I also want to mention, that CSRs are people too. They have bad days and human moments just like everyone else. They may have a day where they have had to deal with rude clients all day long. At the end of the day (no matter how professional you are), you're still human.
I also want to mention that the hosting business runs on word-of-mouth. SO if a successful, large hosting company constantly doled out bad customer service, and was caught lying on more than one occasion, then surely someone out there would write a review or 6.
AND... I think some of those who read bad reviews have a sense of morbidity about them. They sign up with the host just to see if it's all true. If they are really that bad. Publicity is publicity and sometimes bad publicity (no matter how backwards the notion is) can generate business.
How successful you are is going to rest entirely on how hard you are willing to work and will depend upon the team you hire to help you out. If you work hard, keep yourself honest, make sure you have a good team behind you and hit the ground running with your business... you too will be successful. Being an honest host is a good thing in the long run.

Lies always catch up to you. They become habit forming and part of your culture.
I think it's always best to manage your prospects and clients expectations upfront - you can't be all things to all businesses. You can't control the world around you, but you can control how you deal with your prospects and clients. In the long term, great customer support, pre and post sales is the best path to run.
