View Full Version : How many hosting companies do you run?
tazd9t9 10-30-2002, 08:00 AM It seems to me that more and more people are starting to set up more than one hosting company.. so....
How many hosting companies do you run?
How do you find the time to manage more than one?
2Mhost 10-30-2002, 08:12 AM i think managing 1 company or more is the same as long as you provide same platform .. ( all Linux, all windows ) with same data center and same control tool.
> How do you find the time to manage more than one?
question is how many customers you can manage alone! not how many companies ( 'brand' is better than 'company')
2Grumpy 10-30-2002, 09:08 AM Diversified offerings really. I wouldn't really call it seperate companies but seperate offerings (in most cases). Perhaps a "company" (web site) dedicated to colocation/dedicated servers, another dedicated to e-commerce hosting, another dedicated to "mom & pop" hosting or budget hosting that is, I think this sort of thing is a relatively common practice.
Kaumil 10-30-2002, 10:56 AM I think it works best if you manage one company? Unless you don't have that much clients, two or three might work!?
diederik 10-30-2002, 11:49 AM One is enough for me :)

For those hosts who have 5000 clients (http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81882) *cough* or more ;) it would be best to stick to just one. :D

We have just about 5,000 clients under our belt. We did some massive direct-marketing campaigns to get these clients and it took us about 1 to 1.5 years to get. Hard work if you ask me.
Sorry, couldn't resist. :D
rusko 10-30-2002, 02:00 PM dont kick a man in the gut when he's down... let him get up first, then hit him with a crowbar =]

2Mhost 10-30-2002, 06:13 PM --sorry--
DotComster 10-30-2002, 07:57 PM More than one? - I'd have to be nuts :)
I run one - but "guide" 8 more.
NexDog 10-30-2002, 08:35 PM Only one and that is more than enough. We run support for a few of our resellers too but that doesn't really count.
AussieBob, you bad boy. ;)

You need to tell the truth. Do you think we're all that stupid?
Techark 10-31-2002, 01:06 PM 2 web sites soon to be 3 all under one company diversified offerings but share resources. All money etc is handled as one company.
joelmoss 10-31-2002, 01:26 PM so tell me those of you who run more than one hosting service - why?
What is the benefit or running multiple hosting sites or companies. Why don't you just put them in one place?
Does anyone actually run more than one hosting company/service that offer the same services or are they different complenting services?
TowerHost 10-31-2002, 01:30 PM Aussie Bob
You couldn't have said it better :D
Run just one, started in late Aug.
Kaumil 10-31-2002, 02:04 PM If you can't understand, then yes, you are stupid!? No need to be jealous.

Far from jealous, believe you me. :D
Kaumil 10-31-2002, 02:27 PM Okay, from now on you're being ignored. You play too much like a child.

I'm being ignored?? :bawling: :D
If you want to make rediculous claims about having more than 5000 clients (http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81882) and then hide when the community calls you into question on that claim, then fine - run along now....:cartman:
I bet you $100.00 that you read this post ;)

Simply put: hosting for different markets will need different offers and different web sites.
BTW, either two companies or one company and two brands!

Why does GM also own Buick, Chevy,Caddilac, etc...
Why does Coke make 10 different soft drinks.
It is called target marketing to differing segments of the maket place.

very well said. what one company has to offer will not always be what everyone needs or wants.
Incognito 10-31-2002, 08:00 PM I continue to be amazed that people expect others to answer (and give honest answers) to questions such as income, number of customers, and now number of companies, although this one is a little less a private question.
However, I shall refrain from sharing. Oh....and the number is less than 1,000, too....so now it has been narrowed down....somewhere between 0 and 1000.

Speaking of which :D I just love the new Vanilla flavor. :D
CDHost 10-31-2002, 11:31 PM We only have one hosting company... it is a division of our web development and graphic design firm. I don't see the point in having multiple web hosting companies... unless you planned on getting one of them shut down for doing something wrong.
Why spend twice (or three times) as much money in advertising, web development, payment processing, etc. just to have more than one company? If you focused all your efforts into one you would have a much better chance...
