I have made up my mind, the finalists are:

http://www.ehostpros.com/hosting/hosting.html

http://www.hostpacket.net/comparisonchart.php

http://www.icdsoft.com/hosting.php

http://www.your-site.com/host-one.html

Which one shall I go for? I've searched here and there, seen most of the good and bad comments, they're all pretty close. I only need a basic plan.

So who's the winner?

whatever you do, stay away from hostpacket...I don't even think they are accepting new customers. Horrible service. He (the owner and sole employee) left all of his customers high and dry with no support for a month with all his customer's sites down.

do a search on these forums for "hostpacket" you'll find out what happened a month ago.

Heck, even go to the forums on hostpacket's site and see the complaints from customers (although he deletes posts often)

I don't know about the others.

Remember, you get what you pay for. Cheap doesn't always mean good. You're also better off finding someone ( a company) that has been around for at LEAST 6 months minimum.

If you're looking just for a personal site, i guess it won't matter much, if you're considering it for a commercial site then proceed with the outmost caution.

No offense intended to those who made your list, but why did you choose these particular people over others? Maybe this will help us help you which direction you should go.

May i suggest to you another option. Lunarpages is awesome. I use them for five of my customers sites and they rock. check them out at

www.lunarpages.com (http://lunarpages.com)

Participants may not use the Forum to direct others to any pages which they have a commercial interest in, these include commission or referral hyperlinks.

You might want to change your signature, I'm not sure it's acceptable here.

www.lunarpages.com (https://secure.lunarpages.com/tracking/cgi-bin/clickthru.cgi?id=jonnyfive&campaign=webhostingtalk_forum) It's a small basic site, I don't need 20Gig of transfer / 300 MBs of Space, thanks for the recommendation though.

skelley1, my list is based on price, features, popularity, and recommendations, but it's not a very accuate list.

Happy hunting to you.

I think you'll find that in most cases, hosts with the same control panels will have similar features. What features in particular do you need? Are you needing a particular control panel or a minimum number of SQL databases etc? If you are new, you should go for someone that has great customer service, not cheap. If it's only going to be something to start off with, might as well start off with something that will teach you. That will be worth more than the extra couple of dollars/mo. Do a search on the most reputable hosts, not the cheapest. You may be thinking you'll want to spend as little as possible, but you'll be greatful if you don't go cheap. They're cheap for a reason. You'll regret it.

Look into Alan with http://Splashhost.com and Aussie Bob with http://www.httpme.com/

They are usually brought up when good hosts are mentioned. I've personally dealt with Alan and he is great. I've seen very good comments about Aussie Bob and like his professionalism. Don't think you'll go wrong here. You'll also see others mentioned along side them.

Be careful of some people. They are not who they seem from their sites.

Hi skelley,

First off, thanks for the reply :)

Well, I'm not a newbie(however, my status is), so service is not a big issue to me.

I don't really need MySQL, it's quite optional, but most hosts that offer PHP come with 1 to 5 MySQL DB's.

Now I'm not looking for the cheapest, but I have one friend using ICDsoft and another using Your-Site. Both are cheap, fast and have great support and uptime. So in my views, they're pretty much even, hard to choose.

Thanks for suggesting SplashHost, I'll look into that, httpme is a little over the top for me...

Okay, pokerstore, I'll take your word and stay away from HostPacket...

So here's Round 2:

http://www.icdsoft.com/hosting.php

http://www.your-site.com/host-one.html

And the winner is???

Talking as a web host I whould probably say that the better was to check our plans.......
But, as you only have 3 oprions there I will speak as non-webhost and leave my company out of this.

Go ICDSoft.

It was my first web host and just left because I wanted to grow.... They have a great support and service.

I used Your-site in the past (before starting my own hosting business), and I was very satisfied with their reliability and support. (That was well over a year ago.) I left only because I wanted to use some Apache-specific features, and their server wasn't running Apache.

Hi eHostPros,

Out of my first 4 choices, your site's the only one that lacks an FAQ, and your Request Live! Support had no representivies at the moment... so I want to ask:

For the Silver Plan, you are allowed to host multiple domains of 2, meaning a couple, I understand the: ("One time $5.00 setup fee applies, but no monthly fee. Disk Space and Data Transfer is allocated from your primary account however you feel like.") part, but can my secondary domain forward/mask a sub-folder of my primary domain? Or do both of them have to be pointed to the root?

I'd suggest you have at least a Pre-Sales FAQ, I'm sure lots of other people look for it too but it's not there. Thanks anyways.

Hi Ivana,

Yes the chat was offline for two hours in evening.

Yes, in Silver plan you can add upto 2 more domains to your plan. Each addon domain gets its own full control panel and all the features like unlimited emails, autoresponsers, users etc. So there is no need to point the second domain to another directory or anything like that ;)

We do have pre-sale FAQ but its under ensim FAQ. I took your suggestion as updated the FAQ and made a seperate secion and outstanding link for it to our hosting, reseller and support pages.
Please see the pre-sale faq HERE (http://www.ehostpros.com/cgi-bin/pre-sales/smartfaq.cgi)
We hope to host you :D

Kind Regards
