***** actually has a very nice facility...i see it on the side of the highway every time i go to dallas...with the shoddy business they run, one wonders where they get the capital to build this kind of stuff...

I was minutes away from signing up with ***** -- they've got a nice dedicated package with a 233Mhz Pentium for $59 per month. However, after researching this forum, I was saved. Thanks. :)

Um, okay, then how do you explain the other 94% of complaints posted here?

Sure, people who are hosts now may have used ***** at some point. That doesn't make them ineligible to post their comments. If anything, they know more now about what stinks so badly about CI's business practices & service. Maybe it was the CI Experience that convinced them there was a need for a Quality Company that could do it Right, and take great care of people while offering stable service.

Most hosting companies carefully watch their words in those threads, substantiating their concerns ("when I was a client," "my brother, who's a client of *****..." etc.) -- they don't just slash carelessly. And truly, no company is going to benefit substantially from a mud-slinging exercise on a bulletin board. If anything they just walk away looking dirty, that's the problem with mud. :)

I think the concensus of users' experience, as well as the BBB's experience, is that ***** is pretty shoddy business- and service-wise. They have earned their reputation all on their own, without much help needed from us.

You'll notice some of us *cough* don't even have our hosting URLs posted here yet. ;)

Sorry, I can't let this one go by without a comment.

I am a (soon to be former) ***** customer. I do not own a web hosting company. I have recently started to lease a RaQ3 more as a hobby to learn about the internet more deeply than my day job allows.

I am completely and 100% dissatisfied with the customer service of *****. When there is a problem, emails I send them are greeted with the online equivalent of a blank stare. No reply at all.

One time I received an email from them in which the subject of the mesage told me to resubmit my order. There was nothing in the body of the message to explain what was going on, indeed the body of the message was blank. When I checked, my account had been canceled and my site taken down. All without any explanantion. I prepaid for a year with them, so payment problems were not the reason.

When I wrote and asked what was going on, I received no answer. I even wrote to the CEO and received no response.

Then there were the two weeks recently when my sites were all but unavailable due to poor network response on propagation.net (*****'s internal network). The response was so bad that I could not even submit a trouble ticket.

One of the ways in which I judge a company's customer service is how the company acts when there is trouble. Anyone can sail a boat in calm waters, but the real pros come out when the storms blow through.


I feel that ***** would be out of their depth in a bathtub...



disclaimer: I do not own a web hosting company, I probably will never own a web hosting company. In a previous life I was an IT professional who architected, built and ran a corporate network. That was enough excitement for me for this lifetime. ;)

Personal opinion (I stand aside from my role as a mod, and enter my 'ex-*****' role for a min) : you are about to be shot by the other non-hosting company, ordinary ***** users who have been burnt by the company in the past.

And if I wasn't a mod I would have already let loose a string of extremely annoyed blasts.

I've had a pretty positive experience with ***** on their $59 special... The server has been running MRTG for quite some time now with out a glitch. They do reboot it on occasion though, for no reason whatsoever. No big deal... for $59 per month and with the network they have, you can't beat the value.

WHT is not the only place where I have found bad publicity on *****. I have read very little, if anything, positive on the entity, other than what they wrote themselves. Do a search for ***** on Yahoo, or any other search engine, and see for yourself. :look:

***** is EVIL.

I got a dedicated server from them back in December - all was fine (apart from they forgot to turn it on at the start).

Up until february, my server was slow/up and down for a while - then I wanted to install PHP4 - no go because they use RedHat 5.2.

So I paid for them to install RedHat 6.2

I asked them to install PHP4, MySQL (latest), perl and the latest apache, to which they said they would do.

They didn't.

After that point, I got no support. They would not return emails. 2 of my IP addresses pointed to different servers on their network, and they wouldn't admit it was their fault so they wanted to charge me to look at it.

So now I have a server with venturesonline - vote is still out on that - even though they fixed our problems, vdi has been working on upgrades, so sometimes the server is down.

Oh, and lets not get me started on those criminals at vikmar.com!

Explain why I think they suck then? I run a hosting directory which makes most of its money from advertising. They used to be one of our top customers until WE decided to drom THEM, due to the level of poor suport and service they had been offering customers referred by us.

Not everything is rulled by the mighty dollar!!!
