View Full Version : What a rip off..
cmw6988 10-27-2002, 01:40 AM A friend in a chat room showed me this webdesigner's website and what a rip off. http://www.cajun.net/webdesign/ he wants $200 per year and $20 per update. for a one page site. It says <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0"> in the code. I think this guy is ripping off people. What do you think? The frame at the top with the navagation isnt even the correct size
faculty 10-27-2002, 01:59 AM Hah...
Has to be a joke, right?
interactive 10-27-2002, 02:03 AM maybe his work is better than his site? we can only dream! lol I wonder how much business he gets.
faculty 10-27-2002, 02:05 AM He has a page which shows his work..
Seems worse
skelley1 10-27-2002, 02:07 AM I don't think he is ripping people off if people think it's worth it. Just because someone uses FrontPage doesn't make them a thief. $200/yr is only $16.67/mo, including the site. Maybe he gives great service.
Look at these for comparison:

these are hosting only prices BTW. Value is a perception decided by the consumer. Different customers look for different things in a host. Price is only one consideration. Some companies are heavy into support.
akashik 10-27-2002, 04:19 AM $200 a year is pretty cheap. I've personally done design projects that worked out to around that per hour - granted that is a little rare :)

whatever 10-27-2002, 05:00 AM Yes, the price is okay, and whats so bad about using a WYSISYG editor? Maybe his work isn't very 'nice' to you because your a pretty good designer...give him a break!
He isn't ripping people off if his clients like the work, I've seen a lot of sites which are worse than that. Honestly.
Aussie Bob 10-27-2002, 05:16 AM Come on guys - he's just a chap using the net to the best of his ability. Nothing wrong with that. :)
akashik 10-27-2002, 05:21 AM Bob, my point exactly :)
Greg Moore
cmw6988 10-27-2002, 05:50 AM Well there is nothing wrong with using a wysiwyg editor. I use dreamweaver. But that design just doesnt look that professional.
SoftWareRevue 10-27-2002, 06:15 AM But, if someone wants to purchase his designs, then there's nothing wrong with that.
To answer your original question; no, he isn't ripping people off. They know what they're paying. And they can see examples of what they're getting.
skelley1 10-27-2002, 06:17 AM I saw hosts advertising 15 freakin' cents/month last night. Does that mean that hosting for 50 cents/mo is ripping people off?
whatever 10-27-2002, 06:30 AM No, it doesn't. Really get a life cmw, I use frontpage sometimes, not always, but sometimes. Does that mean that my layouts suck? Maybe..but thats not my point
progex 10-27-2002, 07:47 AM Yes, I agree with what the other have said. Just because someone uses a WYSIWYG editor, does not mean they are not professional. In fact, I can bet that almost all the corporate firms (Razorfish, Sapient, etc.) use such programs as Dreamweaver.
You also have to notice that there are a couple hundred amateur local 'firms' such as Cajun.net-- So get used to it. :)
Something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Therefore, if people are willing to pay what he wants, then he isn't ripping them off. (that is as, long as he isn't saying the sites are coded efficently)
