My server is currently not available for http requests, as has been the case for the last 30 minutes. FTP seems to be working okay.

Support is supposed to have 24/7 network monitoring. If that was the case I wouldn't be experiencing this outage, right?

Having sent two e-mails to support, how long do you think it is reasonable to wait before getting annoyed at the outage? 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes?

if http is down on a server, you would think the host has some sort of server monitoring that would notify them immediately of the problem. if they really do have 24 hour support, then they should be right on the problem as soon as possible. this is just my opinion.

You'd think so... I called the NOC where the server is housed, and because I'm not on "the list" they couldn't reboot it for me.

I guess I just have to wait and lose money and customers.

Suggest they get service with one of the free monitoring co.s out there and get a beeper at least so if they aren't a 24 hour operation someone will call/log in and restart apache when it goes...

30 minutes for a major outage.

Well, I use a free monitoring service, and I'm just a lowly reseller.

It's stuff like this that makes *me* look like a schmuck to my customers. I know the problem, I know how to fix it, but there is now way for me to do it.

It's been an hour of outage so far.

Get on "the list" or get out. Is the money you saved going with this company enough to cover being down during primetime on Friday night ?

You said FTP is up and HTTP is down?

If they only have "network" monitoring they probably just check to see that the server response to PING packets. In which case their "monitoring" wouldn't pick up the Apache crash.:rolleyes:
