Co-location companies mention racks without detailing much, so is there a standard size to a rack?
How many rackpanel servers can fit into a rack assuming each server is 1U (2.75 inches height)
Well first off 1RU is 1.75"..... and a standard size rack is 42RU.... so it can hold 42 1RU servers....

Not really... depends... Some racks can olny do 34 1U servers, some can do 42 1U servers. But don't forget, you need the rack space to put your switches too... Some switches take 2U of rackpsace, some take only 1U. Depending on the number of ports on the switch, you may need anywhere from 1 to 4 switches if you are going to put more than 30 servers on 1 rack...
Also another thing, you may not want to put 40 servers on 1 rack since you may get some heat problesm... Some people may only put 30 servers on the rack although the rack can handle another 10 servers...

Our rack, made by IBM, is about 8 feet tall.
