Some racks can olny do 34 1U servers, some can do 42 1U servers. But don't forget, you need the rack space to put your switches too... Some switches take 2U of rackpsace, some take only 1U. Depending on the number of ports on the switch, you may need anywhere from 1 to 4 switches if you are going to put more than 30 servers on 1 rack... Also another thing, you may not want to put 40 servers on 1 rack since you may get some heat problesm...
