I installed the ColdFusion demo successfully on my RedHat 6.2 box without too many problems. I found it to be a memory hog and a bit sluggish on a PII 350 box with 384MB of ram -- it works much better on NT/Win2K than under linux.

If you plan to use your cobalt box, I would upgrade the RAM to at least 256MB.

Macromedia and Allaire just "merged" -- Currently, the license for a linux box is $1500, which a bit steep considering chilisoft is half that. Also, I don't know anything about the merger and am curious about future support for allaire products.

This is a message board for CF issues.

I've used CF on NT/Win2K boxes and is provides for rapid development. Combined with CF Studio, CF can be a powerful development tool and really cut down on programming time. I am not sure how well it will work on a linux box though.

They may have some pointers on running CF on linux.
