View Full Version : Namesold, cheap
| Yesterday, I resgistered a domain at namecheap using a email addy I made up. Since I own the email addy's domain, I don't actually have to create an email account for it. It just goes into my default email where it is easier to check my email from.
Today I got spammed to the address I used to register that domain.
Needless to say I am pissed.
I have domains at NameSecure, godaddy, and 000domains, but this never happened before. I mean sure, I got spam, but not within 24 hours.
Is there a script or proggy that indentifies newly registered domains?
Or does NameCheap sell it's customers addresses?
Anyone else have this happen at namecheap? |
enetwork 10-23-2002, 09:39 AM Let me assure you, we(NameCheap.com) do not sell or use your information in any way. There are spammers out there who mine whois information and will spam you. We do not condone or support this action in ANY way. There is a certain hosting company out there that especially targets new registrations.

| Thanks for the quick come back. Note that I was giving you some benefit of doubt.
I have to admit, I am very leary when I have over 80 domains, and get very little spam. Certainly never within 24 hours of registering a new domain.
Then when I use NameCheap for the first time, . . . wham, bam, spam! |
enetwork 10-23-2002, 01:22 PM AsTST, I understand your concerns regarding spamming. Please know this; I own NameCheap.com and it is not our policy nor will it EVER be our policy to use or sell your information to others in ANY way. If there is anything else I can do to assure you of this, please let me know.
Best,
Richard Kirkendall

Web Hosting Stuff 10-23-2002, 02:21 PM I've quite a number of domains with them ... haven't got serious spam yet. Try using mailwasher at http://mailwasher.net or use a throwaway email address for the domain record. |
It's good to hear from both of you about this.
I don't use mailwasher only because I refuse to have my PC run an extra process just to prevent people from sending me crap. Heck, I am already running an AV, TrojanKiller, RegistryLocker, FireWall, ScriptTrapper, ConnectionStopper, and PopupStopper!
I made up the address just to use for this registration, but now I think I like the addy I made up, so I guess I will have to hurry and change it as the contact registrant.
What I don't like about having to use throwaway addys for domain registration, is the fact that I have been contacted before from some one wanting to BUY a domain from me. If I had used fake info, not only would I not be able to prove I was the owner, and sell it, but nobody would be able to even contact me about it.
People calling or emailing me to sell something just tee me off.
Anyone wanting to buy something however, can call me using my 1-800 number, email me, or flag me down on the street as far as I am concerned. :D |
Hello!
I am also a NameCheap customer and have never received any spam after registering a domain with them. Also, their customer service is pretty good as well.

You've NEVER received spam as a result in registering a domain name? Hmmmmm.
I have a hard time buying that---with all due respect of course. |
Xemion 10-29-2002, 05:08 PM I've registered hundreds of domains (many with NameCheap, of course) and I also receive very, very little spam. Most of the spam I receive comes from e-mail addresses posted on websites for various reasons.
It's my belief that my domain spam is blocked by my ISP. It's probably the same is WP1's case as well. |
Hello!!,
Yes I have NEVER received spam as a result of registering a domain name with NameCheap.
I did received some spam when I had a domain name with NameDemo.com which BTW I thought charged an outrageous amount of money to renew the domain name registration after the "so called" free registration period was over. That domain name is now registered with NameCheap.

Hello!!,
I would also like to say I have over 30 domain names with NameCheap and intend on buying more from them.

So..what you're saying WP1 is anyone whose registered name through eNom does not get spam...because after all namecheap is an eNom reseller?
Maybe you just don't realize it, but i would argue EVERYONE whose ever registered a domain name will receive some sort of spam. |
What was this thread about again?:D |
Hello!!,
NO, what I am saying specifically is that I (WP1) have never received spam after registering a domain name with NameCheap. Being an eNom reseller is not an important component of why I buy domain names from NameCheap.
Since you belabor the point. I must admit I have received mail (spam) about GoDaddy.

That was not my point-You stated you never get spam and I wanted to talk/debate more about that...appearently that's too much to ask.
And no, you have never received spam from Go Daddy, that i do know!
I concede-
 |
Hello!!
This is my final statement on this thread because you are making me very very tired.
I DO NOT GET SPAM WHEN I REGISTER A NAME WITH NAMECHEAP!!!!!.
I do get mail regarding GoDaddy from time to time. I cannot say if it is directly from GoDaddy or another party. I just delete it after I see what it is about.
That is it!!! :o :o
I am through with this for now.
