What does (ON HOLD since 10-18-02) mean?!?!!?

who is the registrar for the domain?
that will affect when the domain name is likely to become available for registration.
Domains can sometimes be on hold for years.

The current owner has some time to reclaim it.
If I was interested, I'd grab the .net and wait for the .com to drop completely.

Go to http://www.internic.net/whois.html, type in your name; and the registrar is shown on the result page.

I would check whether .com has been back-order in Snapname before register .net.

Most of these are ON HOLD and they can be in that status for a long time .... if the owners don't renew .. it could be fully released earliest 12 Nov .. 1 month later.

Registrars will hold the domain to allow the owner time to renew, if it's at Verisign they could hold it for a year like other have stated in here.

Definitely do not show any interest in it to the owner or the registrar and you may want to hold off on the .net so no one knows its value [to you]. I would wait another 3-4 weeks for it to be released, if the .net is available there's a good chance it's not snapped.

Do yourself a favor, and if the name is halfway decent - goto snapnames and register a snapname on it.

It will cost $70, but it's got a success rate of around 90%.

Then it's yours. If you see a snapname on it already, then you know that there's a 90% (atleast) chance you will NOT get it. :D

I am sure that snapnames, whilst good, do not have anywhere near a 90% success rate on highly sought after names.

I agree with bok, i would hold off on registering the .net domain, it would indicate to the owner of the .com that it is after all, a good domain name and may sway their decision to renew it, possibly just to sell it to you.
