Dear All,

My home page is 17k in file size with a 20k image. I have done everything I know to make it load fast. However it still takes around 10s to load in IE for the first access, then reloading is very fast. First I thought the slow loading was related to the server, but seems it's not
the case, since every subpage load very fast and the home page loads faster in NS than IE. I would appreciate it very much if someone take a look at my home page html code and let me know if there is anything I can do to improve the speed.

Another problem is I could not get rid of the blank space between the banner and the search box. which are in two tables (in NS 6.0, the blank space disappear). My banner image doesn't have any white area at the bottom. I use VALIGN=bottom for the image table, it makes no difference.

Fast loading.


UK, 56K takes about 6 seconds.
I was downloading at the rate of about 4.8-5.1 Kb/s which is as good as it reasonably gets for me.

As for the search box, there seems to be a 3 pixel or so gap between it and the black line. This is repeated below too the box too. So it does not look too bad at all really.

I was using Opera to look at this.

The site loads fine. You may want to make the top image a .jpg to cut down on size. You have a lot of tables in there, you may want to consider starting a new table row instead of a whole new table in some cases. I did notice you have width=100% defined a couple times in the same <table> tag, although it's probably not causing any problems.

I am still not clear if this is server related or something else. It's quite strange that the slow loading only happens to the first connection. After that loading of every page is fast. I do realize that there are hundreds users on the same machine my site is hosted. I don't know if that is the cause. I did a tracing and got this result:

Hi,
ping time is 130ms for me, from Austria.. loaded instantly on a cable connection. No white space around the search box either (just a few pixels of grey, which look good), using IE5.5.
Looks very Yahoo-y ;)

Took only a few seconds on a 56K modem from Australia using IE5. And no problems with the search box.

well the top image, but faster than anything YAHOO can design
