View Full Version : are most resellers earning any money?
Gurudev 10-21-2002, 10:46 PM Are most resellers here earning any money by selling domain registrations to end users?
or
Are you mostly using the reseller accounts mainly for your own purpose?
Is there any potential to earn money (like at least a couple hundred dollars each month) in this business?
Akash 10-22-2002, 01:13 AM no, my margin is too small and dont see a sensible profit, mainly just eat the cost as part of my *ahem* other services...
You *could* make a decent stream of revenue, but you'll have to obtain the lowest price possible (i think it's at $6.95 right now) which means you'll have to have a decent chunk of change (about $7k to get the above pricing directly from enom)...and then you'll have to spend money on marketing and advertising, credit card processing, bank fees, support (if you want to provide it), and on and on the list goes...
simply put....find something else to make money ;)

absolutely YES
ServerCentreLtd 10-22-2002, 08:21 AM We with all the domains that are registered everyday, I would have to say yes, if you could do something like www.123-reg.co.uk, you could also incorporate something like expirednic in as well. That IMO would be a great service and I would use it.
lbeachmike 10-22-2002, 01:10 PM I'll tell you when my site is live :)
thewitt 10-22-2002, 06:50 PM Yes, you can make good money as a reseller.
You won't make it as a sub-10 reseller, and you won't make it selling to people who hang out here...
It does take a serous investment and advertising strategy, but there are millions of domain owners out there still at NetSol who don't know there are options...

ps If they are corporate accounts, they want real service though. They want an account rep they can contact, you have to accept POs and bill them for names, etc.
hostjet 10-23-2002, 06:34 AM You won't make it as a sub-10 reseller,
thats not true.
PurpleCow 10-23-2002, 12:18 PM Actually, if we can get domains at $7, something similiar to $7000 package at eNom and have quite a few reseller under you, as akash mentioned, I believe it's quite possible to make a few bucks in domain registration services.
With an USP, it should be possible to make dollars out of domain registration service.
Cheers
Web Hosting Stuff 10-23-2002, 02:27 PM It's a volume business ... you need to hook the customer to your service to order 5x ... 10x ... 15x .. then the $$ rolls in.

True. That particular deal is over now though. Not even ETPs can create eNom sub-reseller accounts at less than $8.95 as of yesterday.

ouch...Enom's revenue must be declining bigtime...can ETPs lower the price of existing resellers (ie, can i upgrade my account to a lower pricing?)

I don't believe so, no. Any attempt to change a sub-account's pricing will invoke the $8.95 minimum. That's what I've been told anyway, and it's kinda hard to find a willing guinea pig to experiment on :D
Best wishes,
Simon.
Akash 10-23-2002, 03:45 PM stay away from my account! :D
well i know this probably isn't the thread for it, but if Simon's offerings were great while it lasted...looks like the lucky ones (me :D) got a great deal from him...

yes, usually the first year is slow, but once your first renewals start hitting along with new registrations it will get ALOT better.

I used one of my account as a guinea pig for the experiment, the sub reseller account in my account is $7.20 , i changed it to $7.10 and it worked! so i guess any account created BEFORE enom's new policy is adjustable for below $8.95:D
AQHost 10-26-2002, 09:25 AM Thanks for the info! Very useful to know :D

I'm not for registrations. I sell them at cost to be competitive and hope they host with me.. ;)

Is that good business logic? ;) I was once told that every job should pay for it's self. If they are going to host with you, then it shouldn't matter what you charge for a domain name (As long as your competitive, otherwise they will host with you and buy the domain else where). Especially if they have come to you from word of mouth, they will buy both the domain and hosting and you make more profit enabling them to get a better service.
IMO

It may or may not be :)
For typical web hosting we charge $40/mo, which is a lot more than most. I can't see us lowering prices so some services have to be bundled, and hopefully that will be one of them. Our costs are made up through web design/development, our hourly rate, search engine submission, setup cost, hosting, etc.
ServerCentreLtd 10-26-2002, 08:33 PM I see! looks like you are covered!
Best Regards
NxTek 10-26-2002, 08:36 PM Yeah I hope so.. :stickout
