View Full Version : Formatted by Rackshack
SiliconIce 10-19-2002, 05:40 PM Just wanted to share my recent experience with Rackshack. Until now, I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience there. But just 3 days ago, they cancelled my account and formatted the hard drive on a paperwork mixup. (the account was set to be cancelled in November, instead it was done in October...). All of my data was lost. (no, I didn't have a recent backup and there is no need to tell me how stupid that is, I know...). So I lost 42,000+ posts on my message boards and various other things...problem is, I don't really know many other places that provide what they do at that price, so I will probably end up there again....but with daily offsite backups or something :-/
Faggle 10-19-2002, 06:16 PM what was the point of this post?
clocker1996 10-19-2002, 06:19 PM to show how retarded rackshack is.
jolly 10-19-2002, 06:20 PM
Faggle 10-19-2002, 06:21 PM Cuz they formated his server when he wanted to cancel and now hes just going to buy another one from them? Dont see how that makes rs retarded.. kinda the other way around hehe.
SiliconIce 10-19-2002, 06:24 PM No, I am not going to buy another from them. I said I don't know many places as cheap as them. In fact, I found someone else to use. This was just to say what happened to me at rackshack. Take it any way you want.

oh well too bad you don't.
RackFive 10-19-2002, 06:25 PM In rackshack you get what you paid for ;)
You might want to try out UnitedColo.com because it looks like their downtime problem is getting better with their new providers.
ckpeter 10-19-2002, 07:26 PM Have you tried complaining to the management yet? As a matter of fact, if you do it quickly enough, data recovery might still be possbile.
Also, I know that in the past Rackshack has done such thing before (formatting innocent server), and headsurfer did come out and apologize. If anything, you may at least be able to get some kind of compensation (free months, free upgrades, etc...)
Peter
headsurfer 10-19-2002, 07:40 PM I can't help if someone does not contact me. There are no emails to headsurfer@rackshack.net or my personal email address (which all customers have) about this matter.
We keep ALL restore/resell drives for a minimum of 2 days, sometimes longer.
Patrick-EV1 10-19-2002, 08:07 PM SiliconIce :
According to our records this issue was resolved as of October 18th, 5:01PM. The ticket was sent to Datacenter on the 18th to recover your hard drive after Customer Service was aprised of the mistake, so we got your old hard drive and placed it at a new IP address and updated this in the trouble ticket, the only problem is that I can see it was closed without anyone getting in direct contact with you on the new information and the ticket was not set to email the information. I attempted to call you a few minutes ago but it seems the contact number on the account must be your business line and you were not available so I will be emailing you with the new information for your server so that you can recover your data at the very least. I apologize on behalf of Rackshack for what has happened to you and realize this is little consolation at this point.
Marty 10-19-2002, 09:24 PM Very well done, Patrick! You are certainly a jewel at rackshack.
sonichost 10-19-2002, 09:48 PM Very well done, Patrick! You are certainly a jewel at rackshack.
I will second that! Headsurfer, give the fine gentleman a raise. :D

And you made this observation over what? the past 36 hours of *straight* uptime? Thats like the people who come on to rate companies about how great and stable they are in their first week of service
But I guess Rachshack are still retarted because they actually apologized and managed to get all data back right?
Some people...
RossH 10-20-2002, 05:57 AM You get what you pay for :D
tazzy 10-20-2002, 03:43 PM Yes you do, in most cases :)
Rackshack is actually very good value for money - especially those Compaq Rackmount 1U servers :D
The Prohacker 10-20-2002, 04:22 PM With a data center full of servers they gotta be doing something right :D
TowerHost 10-20-2002, 05:49 PM Well I hope you got it restored, let me just run to my box and make myself a fresh backup :D
I agree with sonichost. Patrick deserves a raise. With all the postings on here about terrible service from RachShack, just the good PR that this one thread will generate is worth a raise.
Fork it up headsurfer.:)
AntiSpamHosts 10-25-2002, 09:55 PM I deserve a raise for reading posts about Rackshack... Headsurfer, send $250, PayPal, to aferree@e-powerhost.com
