View Full Version : WHT Mod in WHM - so who was it?

Jason Ellis

Imagine my surprise to see a WHT moderator interviewed for an article in this month's Web Hosting Magazine. Unfortunately, the magazine listed the moderator's name without the WHT handle.

So... who was it? Come on - own up.

Great advice, by the way - and a great article.

Well we have
Kunal = Kunal
BC= Remains a mystery?
Matt= Matt
Chicken = Chicken
I think that is all the Mods, I would like to see that article.

I wonder.... should I reveal the names of BC and Chicken.....

Jason Ellis

-Removed- - was a case of mistaken identity.

JTY: I think it's up to the moderator involved to own up to it. Obviously since they've selected handles instead of posting under their own names, I think we should respect their privacy and just ask them to tell us.

That being said - come on BC and Chicken (it's got to be one of you two, I think) - don't you want to be famous?

Jason

I know who it is, I know who it is, for those who have been at the board before the guy signed up. I thought it was someone.

But like this German once told me, "We were told to burn all documents, even his picture."

BC should be Brian Curtis and chicken should be Aaron Shapiro. this was all information anyone could have gotten, nothing top secret.

edit: i could be wrong though.

No, it's not me, despite me wanting every bit of grubby publicity.

1. My real name is not Brian Curtis. It's something totally different, and you should be able to find it if you wander around SitePoint and try and find some articles that I've written ;) (hint : they've been in the last 2 months)
2. I am so not knowledgeable about Cobalts.
3. I saw the e-mail from the WHM guys but I didn't reply to it.

1 down, 3 to think of ;)

(btw, Kunal = Kunal sooooo.....)

Oh yeah, does someone have a URL or a scanned image so I can have a look at it? :D Ta!

Wasn't me, and I have yet to see the article. It was given to me on short notice and I decided not to add anything to what was written at that time.

TheComputerGuy

Well Kunal real name is Kunal, besides he lives in INDIA, how would they contact him.

BC: I was about to start an online betting game and was going to give you some money, go and ruined it.

The issue is April 2001 - it just arrived in my mailbox today, so you'll probably get yours soon.

Jason,

Someone suggested in the thread (this bit of info has been removed) that 'Brian Curtis' was a well known regular on the main Cobalt mailing lists ;)

And yes, Martie has hit the jackpot..... Almost. :D

Oh yeah...I see that it is free for web hosts. I guess I was thinking of a different magazine that's free for hosts in the US but Canadians have to pay to receive it.

I can't believe I've actually had my copy since April 2nd and not noticed the article until someone pointed it out.

Not who I thought it was now I've done some digging/

Excellent article "I must say" :D

Glad to see WHM publishing articles like this. It gives them a little more credibility than giving out awards to ***** because they tatoo their name on Evander Holyfield's shorts.

I hadn't read that article until it was mentioned here. I don't know where they (WHM) got the impression I'm a moderator. The mods have "moderator" as their title, I don't, did not represent myself as one, and nothing WHM wrote by e-mail suggested they thought I was one.

Regardless, that is me they quoted in the article. I think it is an excellent article and summarized the problems quite well and without making apologies for the type of companies being lambasted by the truth.

I do like the fact that they mention one of the companies I had problems with, *** (seen as 3 asterisks by the rest of you), in the middle column on page 98. Heh heh heh. A mistreated former customer, the gift that keeps on giving. Here's to you Beau, and the rest of you apathetic incompetent thieves!

I think Shirley Siluk Gregory (the author) did an outstanding job. I'd likely participate if they ask again for another article.

I just want to tell everyone, I knew it, because I remeber the name of most big role players at WHT. I just want to tell all those folks who made a bet, how could you.

Jason Ellis

Hi Duster,

It's funny, because I had a feeling it was you from the moment I read the comment about ***. I guess the reason I posted here was because the article said it was a moderator and I knew you weren't one, so I was confused as confused could be.

You're right - it was a fantastic article. I agree with whoever mentioned that it's good to see WHM publishing articles like this, because this type of thing is definitely needed in that magazine.

Heh... anyone else notice the letter in there that basically ripped WHM a new one for promoting Network Solutions so strongly in their previous issue? I laughed every minute. The editors of WHM should hang around here more, they'd be able to publish a much better magazine if they didn't feature so many bad companies :D

Actually Isabel Wang stuck her head in here a few months ago. The thread finally ran out of steam about 4 pages later I think. After that I'm not sure they'll be too keen to speak up *lol* I'd be very suprised if they didn't read through it already though.
