Hi,

I am considering a dedicated server,
What I would like to know from the more experienced hosters is (approximately) how much a server can handle.

For instance, if I take a PIII 650 Mhz with 256 MB ram. How much virtual domains can I create on it before it it gets very slow.
Or, how much bandwith can such a server handle.

I know a lot depends on how much scripts are used by the customers, so let's just assume I only get 'average' customers (whatever those may be :)).

To be clear : I am not asking how much customers you are putting on your servers, I am just asking what you think is a realisic ammount (100?, 200?, 300?...?)

Thanks in advance

Its hard to define what an average customer is. We have a couple of hosting companies with similar server setups and they can usually fit 150-200 customers on a server.

What do you want to run on the server?
Database sites, servlets, jsp, chat, BBS or......
There are lot things that are considered.
It also depend on your ISP how they are connected to the backbone.
I guess you can host 300 domains with average hits.
And 1000 domains for parkings :)

It can handel
1-2 GB of data transfer per day

:)
