Hope this does not make my previous question redundant...

I was asked to try to obtain a block of IP addresses so we can have multiply ISP's and for our DNS server. How do you get a block of addresses, what is the cost and process of doing it?

Unless you are getting a large amount (what 6-8 Class C's-ish), then you'd request them from your provider (either host or colo facility).

My understanding is that there's a movement within ARIN to make hosts switch to IP-less domains. This is to stave off what they see as a rapidly dwindling inventory of IP numbers. Even large companies wishing to purchase IP blocks must justify the need. If you need a small quantity of IP numbers, you're much more likely to get them from your ISP or hosting company.

Fortunately, Arin reversed their decision on that policy. While I firmly believe that we should conserve IP addresses wherever possible, the fact is hsoting companies do need just as many IP addresses as backbone companies:
