akashik 04-09-2001, 02:42 AM Isn't that the coolest idea though.. :)
I was playing with with yesterday. The guy who came up with that idea deserves to get rich off it. Just one step closer to Star Trek, and we ALL know that's a good thing..
... Make it so ....

Phiberop 04-09-2001, 02:47 AM They make an excellent item to mail to prospective clients for web-designers and webhosts alike. A autorunning presentation explaining the fundamentals of the Internet and what it can do for your business etc... throw in some numbers of growth, annual revenue and leads etc... and you have a very heavy advantage over the person making blind sales calls in hope of finding a client. Really, the options are practically endless... I can't wait to get 600 free AOL hours on one!! :D

ckizer 04-09-2001, 03:57 AM Try out Disk Makers http://www.diskmakers.com/cdrom They even have CD-R of the disk, and several different types
Phiberop 04-09-2001, 04:04 AM Great link!
I've seen these around and have done some searching (not much but some) and most places would only offer them if they burned and labeled them, therefore charging you outrageous fees.

akashik 04-09-2001, 04:11 AM Mike,
actually I was about to ask the totally opposite thing. Is there a decent place online that you *can* order them pre-burnt and labelled. The one I was playing with yesterday was a quick job with some paper glued to the front which kind of reduced it's effectiveness as a professional option.
Want to share the sort of prices you found?

Phiberop 04-09-2001, 04:18 AM Most of the companies I found had a minimum printing limit of 250-500 with prices starting around $2.99 per cd with a 3 color print on the disc and a non-printed sleeve. Prices dropped slightly with higher numbers. I had a catalog at work with a bunch of different types of cd media and printing solutions but this was months ago. I'll see if it is still lying around somewhere. If I remember the catalog was from Jentec Interactive (http://www.jentecinteractive.com/) however they do not list prices on thier site (they do in the catalog).

Mike
akashik 04-09-2001, 04:20 AM thanks....
You're right, that is kinda pricey for something you're giving away to people... For that price I could get a burner and do it myself.
.. hmm.. might just do that :)

Phiberop 04-09-2001, 04:27 AM That is what I was thinking. Your almost better off investing in a nice printer such as an HP photo 9XX series or an Epson Photo 1200 or one of those nice Alp's models for maybe $300-500 and printing your own labels.
Curiously, I checked to see if any of the label makers made labels for them and sure enough... Neato (http://www.neato.com) offers them.
Would take a bit more time and patience but it would be much cheaper, and you would have a really nice printer and a product very similar to what you would pay for at $2.99 per cd.
EDIT: Fixed bad link
akashik 04-09-2001, 04:41 AM my fiancee would love the name of that site :)
Great link.. thanks.. I wonder however if the labels prevent the usual problem of what happens when inkjet printing gets wet. The snappiest label alive is going to look a little secondhand once it gets some water on it.
Might look into some of the local print places here and see what they have to offer...

Alan - Vox 04-09-2001, 04:22 PM what happens if you put one in a slot loading cd drive will it ever come out again, im too scared to try it.
Phiberop 04-09-2001, 04:24 PM Hmm, good question... I don't think they work in those style cd drives but im not 100% certain. If it doesn't it's not that much work getting it out, four screws for the cd-rom drive casing and generally another 4 to remove the tray from inside.
