Tina,

Is that URL correct? It just says that the page is under construction and has a bunch of advertisements on it.

Ahhh! It's gone!!! Too bad, it used to be a big list of all the different hosting indexes. :-(

I have shortcuts on my desktop for about 95 directories. few may be bad link by now but most of them are active. Tell me your email address and I will send you all of them as an attachment.

Nothing against anything, you can post your list on here.

I dont give out my email address unless there a client or I do business with them.

I own my own web hosting company, and am pretty content on our business model.

I dont need spam email or be put on lists or anything.

Sorry,

If you cant put it on the board, i dont care to see it.

That was really rude answer. I was trying to be helpful and have no intention to send you email other than that. Do you know the meaning of Spam?? I doubt.

I have shortcuts of these directories and it is not possible for me to list each of them, don't have that much of time to list 95 links here. If you don't want it I don't care too.

I dont me to affend you...

How do you plan to send it too me.

Im just not really willing to give out my email address to random people.

That is exactly why I dont have email turned on here.

Joe... turning on the e-mail function won't reveal your e-mail address. People send you e-mail via an HTML form and VBulletin does the sending.

Ok, I got your point. You can use my email address to send me an email and then I can reply you back. My email feature is turned on everytime for everybody :)

I've been posting here with my email turned on for close to 7 months now and haven't been spammed yet. I think you're being a little sensitive, and not understanding how the function works, in regard to the forum software.

Posting your email address openly in a post is suicide of course, but everyone knows that - that's why the function is there.

Considerating that I have my own Vbulleting forum, I know how it works.

I will keep my email turned off..

Im sorry if people dont understand, but thats how its going to be.

I get enough inquiries about my services, and other mail everyday. You can simply bring the information to the board.

...as if having a throw-away yahoo account, specifically for this purpose, is such undue hardship.

Really! *rolls eyes*

...works great for this user's purpose. And yes, I agree, that was a VERY rude response.
Just not the kind of place our playground has historically been... I don't understand this newfangled attitude among some users.

If ya' don't want/like offers for help, don't post ASKING for said help!!!!!

Where do you get off.

I mean last time i checked, you are just as new, actually newer then me, in posts that is.

97 posts.

Your new.

Im not hear to make everyone happy. And you know what Ive got a couple junk mail accounts, but you know what, it sucks because I get tons of email there. I dont even know where most of the stuff even comes from.

If I ask for some help on a board I dont need it emailed to me, they can put there post on the forum. This is not top secret classified information...

I mean come on, before you go off shooting off your mouth, get into reality. Dont make it seem like youve been here for ever, when you have 97 posts(ROOKIE)

Now you pissed me off...

Joe

Joe... you might want to look into getting a SpamCop (http://www.spamcop.com) account for your throw-away e-mail addresses. I have one on mine and it works wonders for weeding out the spam.

Also, technically speaking, baileysemt123 registered here two months before you did, so you're newer than her. Although you do have a higher quantity of posts, no arguing that.

Even though it's pretty off-topic (though I presume the name-calling is too), I recommend SpamCop. I usually spend an hour or so a week feeding it junk from my hotmail accounts. The problem is of course most of the junk you get is always from the usual suspects like Broadwing and UUNet, but every now and then you get to nail someone new. The statistic page there is always interesting reading too. Some of those main offenders are companies I wouldn't have expected...

In regards to Spam Cop,

In 1 of my yahoo boxes alone I get about 150 emails a day.

Actually I get more emails to my junk accounts then my company does on a daily basis..

I dont know what 95% of them are from and or ever signed up for.

I will look into spam cop, if it helps i use it.

Thanks

I don't know why, and they never answer me... but I get the UUNET pdf's explaining their services, network, network map and so forth once every week like clockwork... and when I have to check my email from a dialup I get very upset :D

Hey hey hey, easy you two *glare* (Bailey + Joe)

Joe (JBIZ), actually you can configure vBulletin to hide the e-mail address of each poster. If you click on the 'Mail' icon of any poster on this forum (e.g. mine) you will see a web-based form shows up which allows you to e-mail the user. Look at the source code and there's no e-mail address at all - vB takes care of that and the e-mail database is completely hidden from view. There is an option in the vB Control Panel to allow you to switch this option, and if you wanna know how, tell me and I'll find it for you.

Let's keep this civil..... And who cares about no. of posts?

JBIZ718
04-09-2001, 04:17 AM
On my forum we are running Vbulletin Beta 3.

I am fully aware of the email, and how it works.

Ive talked to CHICKEN about it, and well he saw my point of view on the matter. He might not agreed, but he understood.

I really just dont want the mail feature enabled.

Its an option I have turned off here, and on other forums.

My user account on my forum, doesnt even have it turned on...

I understand it and all, I just dont want it turned on

Im sorry if that affends anyone or makes things a little more difficult, but its a choice that I made. Some people might not understand the madness, but what can you do...

Last week I got some junk sent to the work account As I was dragging it through Outlook all I saw was this huge file downloading. I figured I just log into the domain instead and check it out there for file size etc. Turned out to be an 8 meg CD sample or something from some place I'd never heard of (and certainly not a customer). Needless to say it was dumped unseen...

//back to topic *kinda*//

Joe,
while your self proclaimed 'madness' may be a little extreme (I only say that as you confessed it yourself after a fashion), I guess I do understand. Having a spam free mailbox is something to cherish, and proving to be a very rare commodity in this day and age. There are few things that anger me more than checking our support address and seeing rubbish in it. Then to send me off the deep end they claim innocence by using that supposed California law.

But thanks in regards to being SPAM Free. Most of my companies boxes are spam free, which means I can focus on my clients needs, and setting up new accounts.

What is your webhosting company ?

I`m confused on why you don`t have it in your profile, i would want to brag about my services and let as many people as possible know about my company.

LOL... no nothing quite like that. Let's just say that the reason it can't be listed might have something to do with the quote above. His URL is:

We have so much stuff changing anyways, that it doesnt even matter.

I dont really need to brag about my company anyway. I learned my lesson a while ago.

People know that I own a webhosting company. Most people claim they wouldnt use my services, but I dont really care.

We are doing just fine...

Really?? I work 16 hours a day 6 days a week in a good week (stopping to watch the Simpsons at 6:00 ;-)) to build the best hosting service I can. There are days that I spend more time in the data center than I do with my wife. So, every chance I get to brag about our services I do. I'm sure you work equally hard, why would you not want to brag about your service?

It's, of course, your right to not include your e-mail, url, etc...I have no problem with that. Speaking for myself, I want the world to know that I think we have a good hosting company.

I have to agree with uuallen here, I am starting my own hosting company and working my regular full-time job during the mid-day-night. I have been putting in 8-9 hours a day at my normal job and another 8 hours after that working on getting my business things up and running. I can say that once I get everything up and running Im going to want to brag all I can. Sometimes starting up a new business, such as a hosting business, takes a lot of thinking, time and cooporation with others before it's up and running and when you are done it makes you feel great.

Definately something I would want to brag about.

Regards,

Mike

I am proud of my growing business, but until its huge enough to my liking, theres nothing to brag about.

Ive got enough clients where Im happy, but Im growing so cant really complain.

When Im huge Ill brag, until then I shut my mouth and make money.
