We are in the process of developing a directory. I know another directory. These directories are becoming as common as the 40 IS magazines that many of you get a month.

I am not so concerned about revenues, as creating a directory that really is good. Actually in regards to Revenues, Im not concerned at all about it. I would really like to custimize a directory for web hosts to really prosper. I mean host search is good and all, but your going to spend a ton of cash. We want tools and innovation, and well more then the 50-70 current directories. We have looked at all of them and feel we can create a solid directory. We also want a good layout..

A hosting directory for web hosts, developed by a host.

We are open to suggestions, and have already spoken to a moderator pertaining to this post. The more feedback we get, the better off it will be. I am sick of these directories being filled with just advertisments. We need content, and a solid list.

We need something more then just throwing money away.

And thats what where going to develop something more.

Are you going to operate without any ads? because in my opinion this is the only feature the users really need... heheh, some users are so sick of banners and pop ups, sometimes I think that a directory without any ads would be a great success even though it will have no content..

Surely it would be possible to make a hosting directory without hosts buying the advertising? I'm toying with the idea of making one that will either only take ads from non-hosting companies (eg. web design/development agencies) or won't have ads at all, but is it worth my while?

Apologies for posting in another guy's thread, I'll start a new one if there's actually any interest in a non-ad driven hosting dir.

Actually we were thinking about starting a new hosting directory where we would pay hosting companies to advertise on it. I think it will do very well.

heheh, well, yea that's a cool feature... pay the advertisers and charge the users :) how long do you think such a site will last?
