Shoot me for being stupid....
A raq server is hardware??? Ie like Dell PowerEdge Servers.
So, with all the debate about security and configurability, would it not be more advantageous to mention an OS (here comes the stupid part) Does this sytem run strictly sun solaris???

Cobalt is now the Server Appliance Business Unit of Sun Microsystems.

A RaQ is hardware yes, but also the software installed on that hardware. The OS is a specially modified version of Linux. Plus their own control panel stuff.

I guess the Cobalt RaQ's could be compared somewhat to Dell's PowerApp.web servers. 1U rackmount server, modified version of RedHat Linux, and a multi level control panel (server administrator, site admins, and site users).
I've been thinking of trying one of the Dell's PowerApp.web servers, it seems their control panel is a little more appealing and the CPU is a bit faster than the RaQ's and you have a choice of single or dual cpu's etc...
Anybody else out there have experience with the Dell PowerApp.web servers?
Regards,
Mike
EDIT:
I made a post strictly regarding the Dell PowerApp.web servers and it may be found here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=8160)

I like the control panel demo for the PowerApp... I don't know if the actual server runs like the demo, but it's a *ton* faster than the Cobalt CP. I particularly like way the NT CP is laid out... seems more intuative than their Linux CP.
I'd love to see a post from anyone that's using one of these. BTW, I found the CP demo here: http://www.dell.com/us/en/esg/topics/products_web_pwrap_paw_demos.htm

As Hertz once said... 'Not Exactly'
Anyways, I've been happy with my RaQ at Rackshack. I've had 'normal' linux boxes co-located years back with Skynetweb and there are differences between the two but for somebody looking for an all-in-one solution they work out ok. Sure they may not be as powerful but they do perform their task if cared of properly and equipped with the required resources.
