Hello All,

I am in the process of starting up a hosting service and I am going to buy a server and colocate it, I am looking at VDI but I have seen some hosting tests in a magazine in the UK and noticed that hosts who colocate/dedicate etc with VDI are not perfoming as well as others, therefore I am looking into all possibilities to get the best available, could people please share their experiences here and any recommendations they may have ?

Thank you,

John

John,

VDI has had a few recent problems lately due to it's upstream providers and a router failure (from what I understand). I do know that a representative from VDI has stated here that these issues were unacceptable and were being addressed. This alone shows that VDI is at least concerned and on top of the situation, which is more than I can say about some of the others. I have no personal experience with VDI however many people here use them and up until recently were very pleased with them. I have also heard many good things about Catalog and Weinbar. I am sure the list goes on and on and some of the others can give you some personal experiences with using them.

Regards,
Brian P.

Thanks Brian, I have just realised that I was looking at results carried out from the UK - the performance monitor also carries out tests in the US, of which VDI seems to be performing very well.

Asides from all of this, I'd have to say VDI.

VDI gets my vote.

If you want to go with VDI you will have to go through a host at VDI because they are not taking new customers themselves for a while.

Go with VDI...

I bet it won't be long and you'll be charged a 'consideration fee' just to think about if you want to use Albanza or not.

Mike

We've had an excellent experience at NAC/Pegasus. Excellent speeds and support. We were previously at VDI for 2+ years.

How do you still offer cpanel/WHM even though you're not in VDI? isn't it a ton more money?

If you were looking for intelligient, well informed discussion about the various NOCs, unbiased opinions, and recommedations for a NOC other than VDI you came to the wrong forum.

VDi is no longer taking any further customers until further notice.

VDI is not taking clients for 3 weeks. "not Further notice."

Thanks all, VDI is obviously a popular choice here..

..Could I ask for the pro's and con's for VDI/NAC etc ?

Well, the first question is do you need Cpanel?

CPanel...no - but I deffinately need some sort of Control Panel and CPanel still seems like the best option, however - this is not an area I have investigated so I am open to suggestions, Thanks.

Can you turn your email option on or post your email address.

Well, if you are not set on cpanel, then there are a lot of other NOCs that you may want to consider.

Yes, having the ability to sell cpanel as part of your own NOC is truly a plus for cost factors, but there are other control panels out there as well as other facilities. I think that most people in this forum feel that cpanel is the better control panel (even with its bugs) and VDI and a small handful of other NOCs are the only ones to provide this control panel at a decent cost to customers. The other NOCs are at a huge disadvantage with cpanel because they don't get better pricing on it, and the developers will not advance that pricing to anyone else. So the other NOCs offer other solutions, albeit not the most popular forms of control panels according to others in this forum.

You may want to look at what else is available.

You might look at http://www.ensim.com as a control panel
