Where can I find a best host for under $30/mo? cperciva 04-07-2001, 10:25 PM Try looking here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?query=cwihosting&forumchoice=-1&booleanand=yes&searchin=all&searchdate=-1&searchuser=&searchdateline=&exactname=yes&action=dosearch&getdaily=&pagenum=0). Ericas 04-07-2001, 10:43 PM Thanks cperciva! Deb Suran 04-07-2001, 11:08 PM CWI Hosting has a bad reputation on this board and others, and as a result has been placed on the "avoid" list at forumhosts.com (see the last link in my signature). You'll want to do a search here before you sign up with them. The search button is in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. Slydder 04-08-2001, 12:20 PM Hey Deb, If ACNS (my company) ever makes it on your list, do me a favor and let me know. hehe. Chuck en 04-09-2001, 01:24 PM I used to be with them... complete nightmare. Servers down half the day, support was a joke. I'm with Wizardshosting & Valueweb now. I'd recommend both. Slydder 04-21-2001, 12:03 PM I hope you mean CWI. :) en 04-23-2001, 07:02 AM I meant CWI... although ACNS used to be a reseller for them, right?? Slydder 04-23-2001, 09:04 AM We colo'd with them for a while. NEVER AGAIN !!! Those guys don't even know how to setup MX records. It's really sad. Now have a few servers colo'd elsewhere in the states and 1 of our data centers in Europe is getting ready to go online out of Heidelburg. hehe. IBM building. cheap bandwidth and super security. chuck en 04-23-2001, 09:33 AM Yup, they're a scary company. I love the picture of their building on their website :D I'm sure they could be sued for illegal advertising... Slydder 04-23-2001, 09:42 AM Are you saying that it's not thier building? or that the sign isn't posted that way? chuck en 04-23-2001, 10:02 AM Sorry, I've just noticed that they've changed the image. They used to have a large building with a big CWI Hosting logo. Apparantly CWI is run by two college kids. So I doubt they have any premises :D Slydder 04-23-2001, 10:33 AM I remember now what picture you're talking about. hehe. It doesn't surprise me in the least. chuck bteeter 04-23-2001, 10:57 AM Before I became a host myself, I used CWI. They were horrible. Servers were down all the time. If I ever did get through to a technician I had to tell them exactly what to do to fix the problems, because they obviously didn't know themselves. Stear clear, and save yourself the trouble. There are plenty of good hosts out there. Most of them post here regularly. Good Luck, Brian Ironlung 04-23-2001, 09:51 PM Not being the devils advocate or anything but the building they have on there web site is really theres. I have been there a couple of times and know that is real. cperciva 04-23-2001, 10:07 PM Originally posted by Ironlung I have been there a couple of times and know that is real. ... assuming you believe everything you see, that is. If I believed everything I saw, I'd be convinced that my local university is the "National psychics institute", the "43rd street police station", the "NATO nuclear war HQ", and a "Human Cloning Center". Oh well, I guess there's lots of money to be made by renting space to movie crews... jacob 04-25-2001, 01:06 AM cwihosting.com the worst hosting company I had business with. I had two sites with them. The "Chief Technologies Officer" closed my sites and delete all the files on the server, it was a work of 4 years. I talked to him on the phone, asking why he did that? he said I suppose to contact him in 24 hours to get my files back, and he denided I did that. While I have in my mail box the e-mails between me and technical support in the same day when they shut down both sites. if you have emergency issue you will never get some one on the phone, or their "HumanClick chat". Check it your self and see if you find someone there!! Slydder 04-25-2001, 01:48 AM I didn't even want to bring stuff like that up. hehe. I thought maybe I was the only one that they really screwed. I'm in Germany and here we don't use credit cards (everything is done per bank transfers) so I was sending a bank check every month to cover everything. Well, wouldn't you know they never seemed to get my checks (for about 3 months) so I contacted the bank and had them trace the checks in them meantime they shut down my server and all. Come to find out that they not only got the checks but had long since deposited them and was trying to pump more out of me. I finally got most of my money back but only because I sent the last check per signature (so someone had to sign for the mail before they could have it, which cost me an extra 25 DM or $12.50). They came back and said they never got it. That's when I really had them. hehe. The mail went directly to CWI and someone signed for it, and there were the bank records showing that they had deposited it (or at least it was cleared through CWI's bank). So I gave all the info to my lawyer and away we went. You have to love a country that has legal insurance. hehe. pay 100 DM ( $50.00 ) and your covered no matter how much it costs in the long run. chuck |
