View Full Version : I just figured out how to operate the oven!

I just bought this house with a primo dual oven . . . no dials . . . all of that fancy push button crap . . . I think the previous owners were gourmet chefs or something.

So I opened the freezer (a very rare occurance) and pulled out a lone Stouffer's French Bread pizza. I think I am going to use the oven (wish me luck).

(I am being sarcastic . . . I can use the oven . . . I think . . .)

My question is . . . does anyone cook? If so, how often? Azaro's (an Italian eatery), McDonald's and the likes get a ton of my money.

I wonder how much I'd save if I ate in?

Would you like my FedEx shipper number so you can send me some FOC?

And I forgot the ever-important "please" word! :D

Well, our oven hasn't been used since moving in earlier in the year. I rather use either
a) Our microwave
b) Fan forced cooker; small device that is like a mini oven but allows fat, etc. to drain away.

I probably get dinner from take away about once or twice a month and have lunch out about once a week. I last had McDonalds breakfast about a month ago and I don't remember the last time I had the lunch menu :)

Quite good considering that in a 500m radius from my house there is:
KFC, McDonalds, Burger King, Sizzler, Red Rooster, Chilis, among others :)

Increase the radius to about 1500m and you have 2x McDonalds, 2x Burger King, 2x Red Rooster, 2x KFC off the top of my head.

It is amazing how much money you save when you stop eating out. I used to have lunch out every day (cafes, etc... not just fast food) and it was costing me a small fortune. Now that I have stopped I am saving quite a bit of money :)

Kinda funny, I always cook in the deep fryer (Yes I know I'm gonna die of a heartattack when I'm 25 if I keep doing that). But when I cook in the oven I always forget to turn it off. The parents will come and get all made. "YOU COULD'VE CAUGHT THE HOUSE ON FIRE."

my mrs is alergic to wheat which means that you can buy very little from shops.

basically i have to cook everything. i checked that betty crocker box. i have no idea who she is though i'm guessing she must be a cook or something.

I'm actually a pretty good cook. Spending years in share houses as a single guy and working in kitchens came in handy.

My better half tends to stay out of the way when I'm in there though... I'm told I'm a bit of a kitchen nazi, and get too cranky when other try to help. I guess waving chef quality knives about doesn't help either. :D

Although I'm no gastronomist, I do enjoy wholesome cooking.
I bake to relax as well.
But, as I live alone, I rarely get to prepare meals very often. :(
If I bake lasagna, I'm eating it for two weeks.

I cook every day apart from the 2 days a week I actually leave the house to work and get a real salary

of course I have a bus that stops on the corner of my street that whisks me in to the market in 5 minutes so I buy fresh stuff every couple of days, then back home and back on my computer with my fresh baguettes, kalamatta olives, fresh salmon, kiwi cheese

cheaper and tastier than those fast food things you mentioned, seriously I can eat like on a queen on very little $$

on sundays I eat in the vietnamese quarter
once again .. cheap cheap tasty nutritious and yes, cheap

I cook... lasagna, ziti, pizza, cakes, pies, cookies, whatever...

You should see me around the holidays...

Anywho, I was really tempted to the join the Culinary Arts program at school this past year, but I settled on Computer Science instead...

At least I know I'll never have to go hungry...
