Is it just me, or are WHOIS lookups incredibly slow today? I've been trying several sites around the 'net and the reqests almost always time out.

I don't know about the rest of the day, but it's really fast right now. But I have experienced periods where the WHOIS database just hangs there.

It's pretty slow for me also. When I do it from the Unix shell, it takes about 20-30 seconds for the results to be displayed (if at all). Normally, it takes only a couple of seconds.

After some experimentation I think it might be just the OpenSRS domains that are slow in returning WHOIS results. Domains with other registrars like NSI and Dotster seem to be returning results quickly.

I've noticed that OpenSRS WHOIS queries take significantly longer than other registrars. Guess they need to upgrade their database servers. :)
