I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations for Canadian datacenters / providers, as I have little experience in this market.

Anyone care to post some opinions? ;)

Since the cost of bandwidth is much higher in canada, they mostly host in the US.

Our Data Center host quite bit of canadian based clients, so i have to assume its price or possible speed issues.

The datacenter in Canda is wanted simply because of it's locale - the fact that is is in Canada.

Q9 operates all of the tier 1 data centers in Canada. You can reach them at q9.com

There are a few others, but you'd be wasting time checking them out. (i.e Bell Nexxia, Terra-Byte, GT, Zoolink, Peer1, etc.)

Q9 is very good. But they are outrageously expensive, (Just as every Canadian Datcenter is...)

Bandwidth is VERY expensive here. I know you're used to 2/GB and everything, but around here you'll have to be content with at least 8/GB...:eek:

Now, If you were to go with one of the biggies (WorldCom, Sprint, Telus) you will end up paying much more than you would if you were to go with a smaller provider. Here, the smaller providers are much less expensive than the big players.

I would recomend you check out:

http://www.tera-byte.com (Based in Edmonton, probably the cheapest you'll find in Canada. ;))
http://www.cephren.ca (Based outside of Toronto)
http://www.it.ca (Call them for pricing. They are based in 151 front street, the largest telco hotel in Canada. Their prcing is decent.)
http://www.q9.ca (VERY expensive. Based in Toronto. Q9 is like the internap of Canada. They have over 20+ Backbone providers.)
http://www.peer1.net (Call them for pricing. They are the second cheapest provider price-wise. They are also very good.)

That is just about all I can think of at the moment. If you need any more help on this, then just PM me. I am very knowledgeable when it come to Canadian Co-Lo facilities. ;)

By the way, if you're looking for anything in the way of dedicated servers in Canada, don't even bother. The only two that provide "good" ded. servers are tera-byte and cephren. Other than that, a dedicated server will cost you more than a T1 would in the States...:eek:

www.rackforce.com - great prices and very good service. I have been talking to them about moving there and am impressed with the speed they respond. Can't argue with the prices. They are in BC somewhere.

Haze, read 311's post again :)

I can highly recommend tera-byte. They are very nice to deal with and offer excellent support. It is nice to call the toll-free line at 2am and talk with a tech right away.

Very cheap also. Look at their new colocated deals.. very competitive.

I myself am a Canadian and have purchased all my servers from the U.S. I would have liked to keep in Canada and supoprt my fellow Canadians, but at that rate I would have to charge my clients much more for the same packages.

If you are stuck on getting Canadian, may I suggest to you either Magma Communications, and or Peer1. I had a colocated server at Peer1 and the service was excellent.

Or... be a sneak and bring a shovel and some equipment and dig a hole by those infamous Bell buildings and see what you can tap into.
