So do we still get to sit on Mt Olympus? I know it used to be 500 posts, but the bar got raised...
Seems like the perfect time to say a few thank you's to a lot of the people here. Back when I first posted here many months ago, I was pretty new to a lot of the facets of hosting regarding the ins and outs, the best way to do things, and how to best serve our customers.
Since them WHT has provided a wealth of information (and still does), and at the same time I hope I've been able to help some of the other people out as well. Along the way I've seen the board erupt a few times, and get shaky at others, but at the end of the day it's good has outweighed it's bad sides. As a community we've been able to expose the frauds and myths of hosting, for both fellow hosts, as well as the regular guys looking for a place to park their sites. I'm quite sure there is literally hundreds of such people happily hosted under great support built companies after being refugees from all manner of 'big boy' faceless, uncaring, cookie cutter companies.
The future for this board is looking good too. As I write this there are plans in the making for all manner of great additions to the hosting community including Open Source control panels, content management systems, billing systems - All of which have grown from discussions here about the complaints of current systems we're all forced to use through a lack of choice.
Above all, it has shown me (and many others no doubt), that's we're not all in it for the money. While it pays our bills at the end of the day, it's also evident most people are happy to help each other out, and revel in the success of others. Good old, "All for one, One for all" type stuff :)
Some people don't play well with others. Some companies and individuals have proven themselves unprofessional regardless of their flashy corporate websites, while others with not much to show, have proven themselves worthy peers in this industry. I've seen people come and go, not all by choice. Family illnesses have crippled some operations, while others have been bought out by bigger fish. Some grow quietly and steadily, while others explode into life and grow like weeds.
All in all, it's still a great forum. A few barbs here and there haven't dampened my enthusiasm for this place too much. It's still a great industry to be a part of, and I think the next 12 months will prove very exciting indeed.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone. It's been, and continues to be, a pleasure to know you all.
Best Regards,
Greg Moore
