View Full Version : How long without a computer

This thread has most likely been done before, but not while I have been around.

How long does everyone think they could last without a computer before they started having withdrawal symptoms.

For me I can last at least a week as long as I know someone is keeping an eye on the bussiness.

I normally start shaking after an hour, but have been able to go upto 6 hours. I start "air typing" and I drive my wife insane. She knows when im having withdrawls alright.

well if i didn't have any work to do I could probably last a few days. But since there is ALWAYS something on the to-do list, I don't think I could last a day :D

eh..

although I do spend all my time on this.. if there is something to *do*, I can last as long as someone who has never seen a computer

I choose to use it - I aint addicted :)

Same here I guess. In a world run by computers its hard to not go without them in some way.

Since I have sold most of my electronics including TV, DVD Player, CD player, Alarm clock and PS2, I usually end up sitting infront of the computer for about 12 hours or so on my normal off days.

Usually doesn't exceed more than 6 or 7 hours.
(Yes, it means I do not leave the chair unless I have to use the bathroom or have to open the door for someone)

I spent close to 48 hours once while stuck on international flights. That's about the longest in years. I even visit friends based on their availability of internet connectivity if I'll be there more than a few hours. :D And yes, I know I'm a sad old geezer.

I used to have withdraw symptoms after 30 minutes away from the computer, but no longer. I am working on an implant that will provide wireless Internet access. It'll link directly with your visual cortex so you can see Web pages straight from the server. You can even surf WHT while asleep! Of course, now you will not feel like eating, drinking, or cleaning yourself up. ;)

forever :) i could quite happily see no more electics ever. sit me on a desert island with my washburn guitar and ill be quite happy. no tv, no puter, no alarm clock etc etc. i tend to take nothing electric on holiday with me if i can help it. occasionally ill take a mobile for safety purposes if im going somewhere dangerous e.g. my 6 ft off a lion in the middle of the kruger episode. theres competant staff to manage the business so what have i to worry about :) sit back and relax.

I do not have an alarm clock, nor do I wear a watch.... but I am addicted to my computers. :) I can go about 12 hours or so, then I begin to twitch. Not due only to my hosting company, but also the many online communities and Newsgroups I follow.

Sad, I know. :D

I went without a computer a couple times, for weeks, and one time a month, however my computer was not functioning at those times, so at that time I became a frequent library internet junky.

The longest I can go without having withdrawl's is about one hour. Also I have withdrawls if I don't have mountain due... at least a liter every few hours. ( They should have put a warning sign on the bottle saying it was addictive ):) :D :stickout:  :cartman:

A week in Aruba is the longest I've been away from a computer in probably the last five years. Even knowing that competent people were back at home running the shop didn't help a lot. I still started to get a little bit cagey at the end of the week wondering how things were going.

when will this wondrous implant be ready ?

the one that will " provide wireless Internet access. It'll link directly with your visual cortex so you can see Web pages straight from the server."

please hurry up with this !

It's in clinical trials right now, but 3/4ths of the people who use it die in 2 days. We're still trying to determine the problem. :D

I must admit we had to call the office a few times to check on things and make sure everything was ok.
What would we do without mobile phones. lol

I could probably go indefinately. I dont have any important business on the internet, so I could give that up. I know how to write, so i could give up the word processor.

what I would do with my spare time if i didn;t have a computer i dont know.

yes, weak individuals

I believe the methodology is flawed
too small a sample
