I consider myself a pretty savvy person when it comes to Linux. I can recompile kernels, update drivers, and generally make my servers dance and sing to the tune I want. However, I have spent the last 2 days tring to install damned FrontPage Extensions on a damned Linux box, and I hate it hate it hate it!

Everytime I do something its wrong, I follow the documentation precisely and its wrong. I've downgraded and upgraded apache, I've downgraded and upgraded the kernel and nothing I do will make it work...err...let me rephrase FrontPage is working..I cannot get subwebs to work. I have tried RTFM'ing and all its does is kcuf up my httpd binary.

So, I broke down and opened a ticket with RTR software. So far all they have done is sent me links to their documentation. Which I have already looked at...so I'm blowing $200 to get non-responsive support.

Okay...I feel better now :).

I knew Frontpage sucked when it came to designing websites (its darn job), but I never knew it sucked trying to install it. Sucks both ways.

Damn... Yeah, FP not only sucks, but it sucks that people want to use that crap. It's just as easy to develop in FP, is people are inclined to do so, and then just FTP it! Horrible, insecure, buggy and a hassle. If you want, email me and when I have some time free, which is every-so-often in the day or night, I'll offer my assistance. Just tell me as much details about it that you can and maybe you can cancel that $200 support deal and save some money and time.

They make different versions of the FrontPage extensions for different flavors of Linux, and with some versions the sub webs do not work at all (so you may never get them to work, no matter how hard you try). There are other features (like "security") which may or may not work as well.
