View Full Version : How do I tell which patches I need to apply?

I just got my RaQ3, and i'm ready to start applying patches. My current installed software is:

Cobalt OS Release 5.0
RaQ3-SecurityRelease 1.1
RaQ3-Update-OS Release 1.0

I am unable to make any sense on the cobalt site regarding which patches I need to apply. Should I presume that a version 5.0 release of the OS incorporates all 4.x.x-level patches? That would make sense to me, but I do not yet know whether cobalt's numbering scheme makes sense. :)

What about the Security patches? Which ones are in the OS and (besides the SecurityReleasse 1.1 above) which ones should I install?

I generally apply any patches that don't break things :-)

Check out the Cobalt user groups at http://www.cobalt.com/support/resources/usergroups.html

Search for the patch you are going to install and you should come up with a lot of different posts regarding it's stability.

Regards,

Mike

Usually they list the things a patch includes (what previous updates), below the patch link.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I need to be a bit clearer.

Does the following:
Cobalt OS Release 5.0
RaQ3-SecurityRelease 1.1
RaQ3-Update-OS Release 1.0 incorporate the patchSecurity: Backup Update 4.0.1 and/or Update: Log Rotation 4.0.1

I do want to apply a patch that does not work with the version of the OS that I have. Whether or not the patch is stable is a whole 'nother issue. :-)

(I'll subscribe to the user group lists, thanks for the tip)

It'll tell you if you're trying to install something that has already been installed. Start at the bottom of the list and work your way up. Some of the newer updates require that earlier updates be already installed.
