Ok, I installed the MySQL pkg file from Cobalt since it looked as the easiest option to go for my RaQ4i. So far I dealt with MySQL only on Win platforms.

Everything worked fine, but I thought that sooner or later I'll want to upgrade to a more recent version.

Questions:

a) do I have to uninstall the MySQL pkg? (won't be a problem, the instructions I found are very easy to follow)
b) do I have to backup my databases? (I will do it anyways, but would it be necessary?)
c) anyone knows about a good tutorial for the whole process from step a to installing from the tar.gz package (even if step a is clear to me and instructions about installing from tar.gz look easy enough, I may need a reference)

Thx in advance :)
